Yeher Wu

Yeher Wu was born January 1, 1953 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan into a large loving family with 8 siblings. Her father, a renowned surgeon, instilled altruism as a core family virtue. Even at a young age her love of life was apparent with wide-ranging spanning literature, art, fashion, food, music, and medicine. Along with her siblings, Yeher would often help her father at his hospitals as a nurse while pursuing her academic studies culminating with a master’s degree in nutrition. After completing her studies and marrying, her adventurous spirit brought her to the United States. She lived briefly in the Midwest but settled in Northern Virginia by the time her children reached grade school. Ever the free spirit, she launched a number of entrepreneurial ventures while being a full-time mother. One of her ventures was a child-care business and language school where she formed countless life-long bonds with her students and their families. A formative development in her life’s journey was discovering her faith as a Jehovah’s Witness, primarily worshipping with the congregation in Fairfax County, Virginia. Her spirituality became the foundation of her life, focusing on helping others and acting as a mother, sister, and daughter to countless members of the congregation. Yeher embraced life with a vibrant spirit, embarking on adventures spanning the globe. Her experiences included a 113-day around-the-world cruise visiting 26 countries, regularly visiting family and friends in her native Taiwan, many golf outings, dance performances, playing the musical instrument guzheng, and always being there for her many friends in need across the world. In September 2023, Yeher was diagnosed with cancer. She fought impossible odds to maintain her spirit and love of life until the end, never losing her incredible smile that would light up any room. Even through months of chemotherapy treatment she was always worried more about others than herself and never complained even in the darkest of days. She always found ways to learn from others and we can all learn about the true meaning of strength from her. She lived a beautiful life of joy, happiness, and no regrets. On September 24, 2024, Yeher Wu left this world so much lighter but her spirit will live on in the many lives she has touched.
