William C. Scott

William C. “Bill” Scott, 79, of Gainesville, VA and a parishioner of All Saints Catholic Church, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024. Bill was very engaged in the community as a volunteer throughout his life. He served as a long-time member and Board Treasurer of the Prince William County Master Gardeners, who strive to make their community a more sustainable, healthy, and beautiful place to live and to educate residents about the many benefits of gardening. On the state level, he served as Treasurer and then President of the Virginia Master Gardener Association. He also served on the Board of Directors for Opportunity Builders, Inc., a non-profit whose mission is to support youth and adults with disabilities to experience full inclusion in their communities as they learn, work, and pursue their paths to personal success. Additionally, Bill served as Treasurer and President of the Salem Woods Civic Association while living in Virginia Beach, VA. Born August 1, 1945, to Cook and Doris Scott in Washington, PA, Bill went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Trinity High School. He loved music and worked his way up to Drum Major for Trinity’s marching band. Bill continued on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, PA where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. In recognition of his academic accomplishments, he was selected into Phi Beta Kappa, a national honors society. Beyond his academic accomplishments, Bill attained the professional credentials of Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Bank Auditor (CBA). Throughout Bill’s 50-year career in finance, accounting, and operations, he held several senior financial management positions as a consultant, controller, chief administrative officer and chief financial officer. In corporate finance, he began his career at Arthur Andersen & Company before moving to Mellon Bank. Bill continued his career in banking with positions of Senior Vice President and Treasurer at Northeastern Bank of Pennsylvania, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Sovran Bank, Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer at Citizens Savings Bank, and then Vice President at Riggs Bank. Bill finished his career in the non-profit sector serving as Chief Financial Officer for the American Association of Blood Banks and then as Director of Finance at the U. S. Soccer Foundation. During his career, Bill was an active volunteer in the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA), American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), National Association of Accountants (NAA) and a founding member and Chapter President of the Financial Executive Institute (FEI) Hampton Roads Chapter. Bill married Janet Hundzienski on October 5, 1968; and they were happily married for 56 years. He is survived by his wife Janet, sons Bill and Chris Scott, their wives Karen and Deb, and grandchildren Lauren and Lexi Scott. A funeral service will be held at 6:00 pm Saturday, September 28, 2024, at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, VA. Deacon Brian Majewski of All Saints Catholic Church will be officiating. Bill will be buried in Pennsylvania at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations be sent to the Parkinson’s Foundation in Bill’s memory.
