William Callahan Rampton January 1, 2008 - April 6, 2026 With profound sadness, we share that William Callahan Rampton of Springfield, Virginia, passed away on April 6, 2026. Born on January 1, 2008, he was the beloved son of Clark and Traci Rampton, the younger brother to Jackson (19) and older brother to Adelaide (16) and Henry (13). Before he could even form sentences, William was adored by all who encountered his big blue eyes and infectious smile—affectionately known as our “sweet William”. And then the words came, and his creativity and imagination started to take shape. From that point forward, Will was a force to be reckoned with. He was a talented (if reluctant) writer and a voracious reader who consumed information with intensity. He never met a point he couldn’t dispute or an injustice he wouldn’t fight. For Will, debate was an art form and the world was his canvas. Will was a gifted student, who found his way into the hearts of every teacher who ever tried to prepare a lesson capable of withstanding his painfully insightful questions. Science was his passion; he loved understanding how the world worked and he excelled at biology, chemistry, and physics, with a deep and personal interest in neurology. He was always theorizing on possible solutions for the world’s biggest scientific problems. His fierce attention to detail was most expertly applied when sitting in front of a Lego set, an art project, a model kit, or in the continual perfecting of his hair. Artistry with precision. He was also a musician—playing the piano for a time, the trumpet a bit longer, eventually making his way to the electric guitar, and even dabbling in vocals. He was athletic and witty and sarcastic and—when he wanted to be—intensely charming. He loved to watch movies and could always be counted on to provide running commentary about the legitimacy of the plot—watching the scary and romantic parts with his eyes closed and his ears plugged. He ate Nutella and Jelly Bellies with abandon. He loved all things sugary, and all things soft, and all things irritant free. He was kind and perceptive and quick to offer a heartmelting compliment. Will also had a big heart. He identified and helped people in need, including the elderly and younger kids. He had a wonderful way with them and had a knack for making connections with those who others couldn’t reach and for being a bridge between groups who otherwise wouldn’t connect. William was and will always be deeply loved, and he will be desperately missed by his grandparents, Clark and Sherrie Rampton, Diana Childs, and Cherie Callahan, and a large circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family and friends who feel like family. He is now reunited with two of his grandfathers, William Callahan and Dean Childs, who preceded him in death. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3900 Howard St, Annandale, VA 22003. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday evening at the same location from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. or from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a college scholarship fund being established in William’s name that will support the education of neurodivergent students like himself. The details for this fund will become available early next week.
