Walter William Johnson

Walter William Johnson, passed peacefully on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16th, 2024, at 85 years of age. Born on July 24, 1938, to Eveline Doone and Richard Johnson, of Lawrence, Massachusetts. Walter was a long time resident of Manassas/Haymarket and a pillar of the community he so dearly loved. Walter was a graduate of Merrimack College and went on to serve his country in the Army. He continued his government service with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for 34 years. During which time he received his master’s in public administration at the University of Southern California. In retirement, he enjoyed working for Home Depot, he loved helping people as a tax preparer and worked as a claims estimator which he thoroughly enjoyed, in addition to being a doting grandfather. Walter lost his beloved wife, Christine, in December 2018. They were married for 56 loving years and raised three children together. Andrew Joseph Johnson (Beth) of Tacoma, Washington. Colleen Sexton (Sean) of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Maryhelen Hotz (Sam) of Leonardtown, Maryland. Walter was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was the quiet, reliable, steadfast rock of the family and always there to support or provide a joke or pun when needed. He was an incredible grandfather and would relish in spending time supporting all the grandkid’s activities, taking them to the pool and on nature walks. Walter’s hobbies were as rich and varied as his professional life. He was a history buff, loved aviation, fishing, antique vehicles, bird watching, stamp and coin collecting, and enjoyed delving into his Irish heritage and ancestry. His memory will be forever held in the hearts of his surviving family: his brother Father Arthur Johnson and many cousins, nieces, and nephews; his children, Andrew, Colleen and Maryhelen; and his seven grandchildren, Sarah, MaryRose, Andrew William, Rachel, Ryan, Grady and Samantha. The family will receive friends between 6-8pm on Monday, June 24th, 2024, at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas VA. A Mass will be held the following day, Tuesday, June 25th at 10am at All Saints Catholic Church, 9300 Stonewall Road, Manassas, VA. A reception will be held at the City Tavern, 9550 Center Street, Manassas, Virginia, immediately after Mass.
