Robert Edgar Jones

Robert E. Jones, 69, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Canton, Mississippi, Bob spent much of his childhood crisscrossing the country following his dad’s career in the USMC. Those early travels shaped his adaptable spirit and appreciation for people from all walks of life. Bob was a member of the first graduating class of the “new” Woodbridge Senior High School. After high school, he briefly attended college but decided it was not the right time for him. Years later he returned to school to pursue his passion for helping others—particularly those battling addiction. He earned his Master of Social Work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, dedicating his career to service and compassion. Bob was an active member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church, where he founded a group for single adults—an endeavor that led him to meet Martha, the love of his life. After moving to Manassas, he became deeply involved with St. Thomas United Methodist Church, where he especially cherished his time with the Saturday morning men’s group. Bob found joy in scenic drives, relaxing days at the beach, and listening to the music of Jimmy Buffett. Above all, he treasured his faith and his family, embracing Martha’s family as his own. He was a loving and protective husband, father, son, brother and most proud to be “PopPop” to Zachary, Ava, and Aiden. Bob is survived by his wife Martha; daughters Amy Morris, Heather Cortez (Andy), and Kim Rosenberg; son Aaron Rosenberg (Kim Vu); cherished grandchildren Zachary, Ava, and Aiden; his parents, Lt. Col. George Edgar Jones, Ed.D. and Joanne C. Jones; sisters Kate Rees (Amy) and Linda Armentrout (Russ); nephews Evan, Robert, Russell, and Aaron, and nieces Amy, Emily, and Melanie. A memorial service will be held at St. Thomas United Methodist Church in Manassas, with the date and time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) at umcmission.org or to the World Central Kitchen at donate.wck.org.
