Richard Allen Mindock

Richard Allen Mindock (“Rick”), 75, of Manassas, VA, died surrounded by family on December 2, 2025. Rick was born in East Chicago, Indiana on February 27th, 1950 to Agnes and Peter Mindock. He grew up in East Chicago with younger brother Michael and attended Bishop Noll Catholic High School, where he met his future beloved wife of 54 years, Kathleen Gregor. Rick and Kathy married in 1971, and lived in Crawfordsville, Indiana while Rick completed his bachelors degree at Wabash College. They then moved to Lafayette, Indiana where Rick completed a Masters degree in Quantitative Psychology at Purdue University and where their son Peter was born. After finishing school, work opportunities lead the family to the Washington, D.C. area. They eventually settled in Manassas, Virginia where they had two more children, Matthew and Rebecca. Rick enjoyed a nearly 30-year career at Kastle Systems, where he discovered his gifts for computer programming and network systems management. Rick was active with Coles Little League for several decades, including coaching, managing, umpiring, and serving for a time as the league president. His years of service with Coles Little League were commemorated with the dedication of the “Richard Mindock Field” at George Hellwig Memorial Park in 2012. After retirement, he enjoyed spending his new-found time umpiring baseball and softball games throughout the state, and in 2014 he was an official umpire for the Little League Baseball Southeastern Regional Tournament in Warner Robins, Georgia. Rick was tremendously proud of his family. He enjoyed celebrating milestones, achievements, and holidays with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was an unwavering and long-suffering Chicago Bears fan, and pontificating on their recent wins and meteoric rise to the No. 1 seed in the NFC brought him great joy. Rick was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Michael Mindock and his brother-in-law Jeff Cowley. He is survived by his wife Kathleen Mindock; his sister-in-law Mary Lu Cowley; his brothers-in-law Bill Gregor, Ed Gregor, and Chris Gregor; his sons Peter (Danielle) Mindock and Matthew (Michelle) Mindock; his daughter Rebecca Mindock (Jeff Butler); grandchildren Melia, Andrew, Tristan, and Josh; and great-grandchildren Vera and Sophia. A funeral mass will be held at 11am on Thursday, December 18th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (12975 Purcell Road, Manassas, VA 20112) followed by burial in the church cemetery and a reception in the church hall.
