Richard Thomas Giannascoli, Jr. March 12, 1953 – July 21, 2026 Richard Thomas Giannascoli, Jr., 73, of Gainesville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on March 12, 1953 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Rich dedicated his life to serving others. He proudly devoted 42 years to the Federal Bureau of Investigation primarily as an Intelligence Analyst for the Joint Terrorism Task Force in Washington, D.C. His career was marked by unwavering integrity, commitment, pride and a deep sense of duty to his country. Rich was a proud graduate of Penn State University and remained a devoted Nittany Lions fan throughout his life. He was equally passionate about his beloved Philadelphia Eagles. He never missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams. More than any professional accomplishment or favorite team, Rich will be remembered for the joy he brought to those around him. He had an infectious smile, a kind heart, and a gentle spirit that made everyone feel like they were the most important person in the room. His optimism, sense of humor, and genuine love for people left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He found his greatest happiness in spending time with his friends and family, especially his six grandchildren, whom he absolutely adored and who brought immeasurable joy to his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Thomas Giannascoli, Sr. and Margaret Sweeney Giannascoli, originally of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who later settled in the Pocono Mountains. Rich is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Donna Giannascoli; his daughters, Erica Van Epps (Geoff) and Kirsten Ray; and his six cherished grandchildren: Jackson, Ryan, and Addison Van Epps, and Ella, Gianna, and Landon Ray. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Nativity in Burke, Virginia. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the Mass as they gather to celebrate Rich's life and the lasting impact he had on all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Rich's memory to support Alzheimer's research and provide care and resources for individuals and families affected by the disease.
