Melvin John Engbert

Melvin John Engbert, age 85 of Bristow, VA died on May 10, 2025 at Adler Center for Caring in Aldie, VA. He was born in Pennsylvania on July 7, 1939, son of the late Edward Pius Engbert and Mary Brown Engbert. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Engbert whom he was married to for over 57 years. Melvin’s professional career was mostly spent in his role as an accountant for the Federal Import Export Bank, but more importantly, he can probably be best remembered for his steadfast Catholic faith and central role within his family, which amongst other things included Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather. Dad had a great love for house projects, particularly those he could help his four children with at their various homes and those he could do in service to others including workcamp efforts with St. Mark’s parish. He encouraged his children to stay active in various school and local activities and served tirelessly as a Boy Scout Scoutmaster leaving many enduring memories for his sons of canoeing, hiking, and camping activities, inspiring them to do the same; if you know any of his grandchildren, you might say the love of the outdoors passed down to them as well. Dad also enjoyed gardening around the home and keeping it cheerful and lively with his various flowers and plants. Additionally, he enjoyed traveling which included two cross country adventures as well as traveling extensively with our mom during their retirement; one of their favorite repeat spots was Hilton Head, South Carolina. He surely enjoyed our many large family gatherings and we will miss him deeply but are hopeful, as Christians, that he is enjoying his eternal reward in Christ. He is survived by his children Edward Engbert and wife Christine, Theresa Beckett and husband Thomas, James Engbert and wife Elizabeth, and Cynthia Hahn and husband Jacob; his sister Loretta Zock; his 14 grandchildren Jonathan, Mary (John), Daniel, Luke (Kaylee), Cecilia, Timothy, Lucia (Jacob), Dominic, Patrick, Augustine, Leo, Sienna, Philomena and Zade; his 4 great grandchildren John, Arthur, George, and one expected in October. He is also survived by his loyal companion, Jeanie Trimper, who was such a great source of strength and encouragement to him during these recent years and brought him so much joy and happiness. The family will receive friends at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, VA on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. There will also be a viewing from 1:30 to 2:30 prior to the Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8213 Linton Hall Road, Gainesville, VA on Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 2:30. Interment at Fairfax Memorial Park will be on May 16, 2025. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations in his memory be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Boy’s Town, or the Youth Apostles.
