Obituary for Martha Lillian Green Ramsey In Loving Memory: July 11, 1940 – October 28, 2025 Martha Lillian Green Ramsey, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025 of natural causes having reached age 85. Born on July 11, 1940, in Decatur, Georgia, Martha’s life was a testament to unwavering compassion, strength of spirit, and perseverance under any conditions. Martha, along with her sisters Patty and Aileen and parents, moved to Albany, Georgia. Martha later met the love of her life, Bobby J. Ramsey in Albany and they married on October 30, 1960 and remained married for almost 45 years until Bobby passed in 2006. Her strength of spirit and timing enabled her to join Bobby for their 65th wedding anniversary. Martha and Bobby built warm and loving homes around the world while they introduced their children to the diplomatic world and international living. They raised their children in Liberia, Nepal, Brazil, and Switzerland before returning to the U.S. and later retiring. This international eye opening and formative experience for their children created a legacy of curiosity, adventure, and open-mindedness that will live on for generations. Martha had three sons: Mike (spouse Joy), Mark, and Matt (spouse Heather). She had 10 grandchildren who are Grayson, Allison, Jacob, Andrew, Robert, Hazel, Caden, Malena, Spencer, and Audrey. Martha maintained strong and memorable relationships with all her grandchildren and her sons’ blended families – because once you’re in the family, you’re always in the family according to her. Throughout her life, Martha exemplified selflessness and service. She devoted herself to her family, always placing their needs before her own and supporting them through every joy and challenge. Her home was a haven of mischief (what else do you get with three boys?), laughter, delicious southern meals, adaptability, and unconditional love. In addition to being the center of the family, she worked in the diplomatic community and as a staff officer in the CIA to help enable the family and the boys’ education. She was best known for her love of adventuring and storytelling (think boa constrictor snake skins after a surprise encounter with the losing party), mesmerizing international communities in the 1960’s with flaming Drambuie and fire swallowing, doing the Hustle in 1975 at diplomatic parties in Switzerland (think the electric slide of a prior generation), cooking delicious meals anywhere in the world for a taste of Georgia (think cubed steak, fried chicken, and chicken and dumplings), and her love of games where she brought people together (think Bridge and Rummikub where she was the champion within the over 55 communities). She extoled the virtues that people are people so show some grace, life changes and is dynamic but we’re always connected through our relationships, and you’ve got to have fun living and be just a little crazy to be memorable. Funeral services will be private; however, one or more formal celebrations of life will be planned and announced to honor Martha’s life and the joy she brought to others. We encourage everyone who knew her to have ongoing celebrations of life by remembering her, telling stories, and carrying on her memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Martha’s memory to a charity of your choice, celebrating her spirit of generosity and care for others.
