Martha Ann Decker

Martha Ann Unger Decker, 101 years old, of McLean, Virginia passed away peacefully September 18, 2024 into the arms of her loving Savior. She was born April 21, 1923, in Lebanon church, Virginia to Lois Virginia Glaze and Archibald Newton Unger. Martha grew up as an only child in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley where she went to elementary school. When she was in high school, she would travel by horse and buggy to Strasburg High School where she was recognized as the valedictorian of her class. Following high school, she moved to Washington, D.C. where she went to Strayer Business College. Martha married the love of her life George Elwood Decker on May 13, 1944 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Proceeding college, she worked for the Navy League across the street from the White House until 1957 when George and Martha moved to West Virginia. Martha joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1959. As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ, she held many positions and served diligently. After living in West Virginia for 7 years, she and George moved back to McLean, Virginia where she worked for the National Institute of Health. Martha cherished the 17 years she served working in the Washington, D.C. Temple. She was a beloved member of the community who inspired many others by her astounding faith. She has and always will be our beloved mother. The most important thing in her life was her children and grandchildren. Her greatest happiness and joy came from all her children believing and following the gospel and loving our Savior Jesus Christ. Martha is survived by her son, John Michael (Brenda) Decker, Julie Decker (Craig) Berg, Jennifer Decker (Rory) Needs, David Byron (Stephanie) Decker, along with 12 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.
