Katherine Brice

Katherine Barolet Brice, 64, passed away April 11, 2009 at her daughter's home in Haymarket, Virginia. She was surrounded by her daughter and son-in-law, Tawni and Brett , as well as her sister, Grace. Her grandson, Bryce was not present; however, he gave her much joy in the last months of her life. She had battled pancreatic cancer for the past 13 months. She is survived by her daughter, Tawni Brice Schwemer, son-in-law, Brett T. Schwemer, and grandson, Bryce Connor Schwemer of Haymarket, VA. Other survivors include her father, John A. Barolet of Leonardtown, MD and 7 siblings: Grace O'Brien, Frank Barolet, Jane Crawley, Margaret Candelaria, John T. Barolet, Rosemary Watson, and Edward Barolet as well as their spouses. She is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews and their 3 children. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Stanley H. Brice in 1976 and her mother, Margaret Barron Barolet in 2005. Kathy was born in Manchester, New Hampshire, December 30, 1944. After living in New Hampshire and Rhode Island for several years, the family moved to St. Mary's County, MD. She graduated from Little Flower School, the former St. Mary's Academy, and the former St. Mary's Junior College. During her growing up years she was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, was involved in Girl Scouts, babysitting, delivering local newspapers, and was a camp counselor at the Cedar Point Day Camp on the Patuxent NAS. She loved playing baseball, swimming, cards, tennis, dancing, and cheerleading, Over the years she worked for a number of different organizations, including the Federal Government. Most recently, she worked for Trident Marketing in Pinehurst, NC, where she had made her home for the past 14 years. As an adult she loved gardening, golf, QVC, the Food Network, playing guitar, and listening to James Taylor and John Denver songs. She also cherished time at the beach, in the mountains, and during the holidays. Kathy found serenity through solitude. A memorial service was held in Manassas, VA, at the Pierce Funeral Home on April 20, 2009. Internment was private. This organization conducts research on pancreatic cancer; as well as, provides patient support and community outreach to inform the public about this little known disease.
