Judith Ann Bohince

Judith Ann Bohince, 83 of Nokesville, VA passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2024 with family by her side. Judy was a native of Loysburg, PA. Her parents were Forrest Knepper and Ruth Knepper Wertz. She is predeceased by her husband Darcey Bohince, her sister Amy Knepper and brother Joel Knepper. She is survived by her daughter Rebecca Kong (m. Chol Kong, Vienna, Va) and daughter Kerin Britt (m. Dean Britt, Wilmington, NC) her grandchildren, Forrest Britt, Nathan Kong, Darcey Kate Britt and Imme Kong, her brother, Telford Knepper (Shrewsbury, MA) and many nieces and nephews. Judy married her college sweetheart, Darcey Bohince. They shared a wonderful marriage of 61 years and were only separated in death by a few weeks. Darcey passed on November 4, 2023 Judy attended Northern Bedford County High School and went on to higher education at Juniata College where she majored in chemistry. She met the love of her life while at Juniata and she married Darcey shortly after graduation. Judy then headed to Bowling Green State University to pursue her master’s degree in chemistry. In 1967 while her husband was attending dental school, Judy taught chemistry at the University of Maryland Baltimore Campus. She served as an associate professor for two years. In 1971 she and her family moved to Reston, VA where she stayed home to raise her two daughters. In 1977 they moved to Nokesville, VA. During this time, she went back to work part-time teaching chemistry at Park View High School in Loudon County, VA and at Northern Virginia Community College in Manassas, VA. While busy with teaching, she also helped to manage her husband’s dental practice. In 1984 she started working at Brentsville District High School in Nokesville, VA teaching both chemistry and physics. And it was at Brentsville that she fully developed her love and skills of helping her students to learn. She was accepted as a member into the The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an honor society for women educators. And she was recognized for her teaching at both the state and national level. Her awards included: the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching from the National Science Foundation, the Tandy Technology Scholars Outstanding Teacher National Finalist, the American Chemical Society High School Chemistry Teacher Distinguished Service Award, and the Virginia Electric Energy Council Outstanding Teacher Award. She wrote articles on teaching and presented at the National Science Teachers convention. Her love of learning and helping others learn extended outside the classroom. She was a coach for science bowls, physics competition teams, It’s Academic teams, and the varsity cheerleading squad. One of her fondest memories was coaching a team of physics students who went on to win the Contel Technology Award Contest at the national level. Retirement did not slow Judy down, she was very active in the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority (Zeta Psi chapter), travelling with friends and family, book clubs, bridge groups and serving as an election official at the polls. But her greatest joy, at this time of her life, was spending time with her four grandchildren: holding grandparent’s camp, visiting Wilmington, NC or Vienna, VA, or having the whole family join them on trips. She was so grateful and proud of the young people her grandchildren have become today. Judy will always be remembered for her passion for learning, her big friendly smile, her kindness and hospitality and love for her family, especially her dear husband, Darcey. Services for both Darcey and Judy will be held Saturday, February 3rd 11am at The Nokesville Church of the Brethren, 13002 Fitzwater Dr., Nokesville, VA 20181.
