Jose Felipe Obando

Jose Felipe Obando passed away on December 1st, 2021, at his daughter’s home in Waldorf, Maryland. He was surrounded until the end by those he loved and who in turn loved him very much – his children, his son-in-law, his sister-in-law, his grandchildren, and his nephew and niece. He was born in Chiclayo, Peru, on July 12, 1943, to Jose Obando and Auristela Alfaro. He had nine siblings and is survived by two of them, Fernando, and Leonor. He grew up in his beloved hometown of Callao. As a young man in 1961 he moved to Manhattan, NY, where he studied Economics at New York University, but would later come back home and marry the love of his life, Marisa Andrade de Obando. Jose and Marisa had daughter Marissa and son Ricardo, whom they raised in a home full of love and laughter. After emigrating to the U.S. in 1988, he worked very hard to get his family ahead and make a home for them in their new country. After his wife’s passing in 2013, Jose retired and devoted himself to aiding in the upbringing of his two grandchildren, Nicohl and Emmanuel, the joy of his life. Just as with his children, he was to them an outstanding example of what a fatherly man is to be. Jose, we are all privileged to have called you Husband, Dad, Brother, Granddad, and Uncle. You will always be very lovingly remembered. José Felipe Obando falleció el 1ero de diciembre de 2021 en el hogar de su hija en Waldorf, Maryland. Estuvo rodeado hasta el final de aquellos a quienes él amaba y quienes a su vez lo amaron mucho: sus hijos, su yerno, su cuñada, sus nietos y sus sobrinos. Nació en Chiclayo, Perú, el 12 de julio de 1943, hijo de Jose Obando y Auristela Alfaro, y se crió en su amada ciudad natal del Callao. A joven edad, en 1961 se mudó a Manhattan, NY, donde estudió Economía en la Universidad de Nueva York, para luego regresar al Perú y casarse con el amor de su vida, Marisa Andrade de Obando. José y Marisa tuvieron dos hijos: Marissa y Ricardo, a quienes criaron en un hogar lleno de amor y alegría. Después de emigrar a los Estados Unidos en 1988, trabajó duro para sacar adelante a su familia y hacer para ellos un hogar en su nuevo país. Después del fallecimiento de su esposa en 2013, José se jubiló y se dedicó a ayudar en la crianza de sus dos nietos, Nicohl y Emmanuel, las alegrías de su vida. Al igual que con sus hijos, fue para ellos un ejemplo sobresaliente de lo que siginifca ser un padre. José, todos tenemos el privilegio de haberte llamado Esposo, Papá, Hermano, Abuelo y Tío.
