Janet Irene Laws

Janet Irene (Miller) Laws, 91, of Manassas, VA formerly of Bedford, PA passed away peacefully on Thursday May 1, 2025 at UVA Health Prince William Medical Center with her daughter and granddaughters by her side. Janet was born on Friday May 12, 1933 in Napier Township; Bedford, PA to the late Ray R. Miller and Myrtle J. Miller. Throughout her life, Janet worked in multiple grocery stores and held various positions in Prince William County School cafeterias. Before her retirement in 1991, Janet was the cafeteria manager for both Washington-Reid Elementary and John Pattie Elementary Schools. Janet married her husband, David H. Laws, on December 15, 1961. After 39 years of marriage, David preceded her in death on August 13, 2001. Coincidentally, Janet passed away at 12:15 p.m., her and David’s anniversary. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Ray R. Miller and Myrtle J. Miller, Son Gregory L. Miller, Grandson Gregory T. Harvey, brothers Paul Miller, Ray (Junior) Miller, William (Bill) Miller and sisters Helen (Miller) Grove, Viola (Miller) Shroyer, Phyllis Miller and Arlene (Miller) Dodd. She is survived by her daughter Pamela A. (Laws) Harvey of Manassas, VA, granddaughter Kaitlyn E. Harvey of Manassas, VA, granddaughter Abigail J. Harvey of Manassas, VA, son David W. Laws of Manassas, VA, brother Andrew E. Miller formerly of Bedford, PA, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends and her beloved family pets. Janet loved birds, especially owls, hummingbirds and cardinals. She also loved flowers and could often be found outside in her “grubbies” working in the yard or tending to her flowerbeds. If she wasn’t outside, she was frequently watching “In The Kitchen With David” on her favorite channel, QVC, ordering more Lock n Lock to add to her extravagant collection. She also enjoyed her frequent trips to Pennsylvania in her blue 2003 Ford Sport Trac, was a fan of country music; especially Alan Jackson, and among other things, will always be remembered for her famous spaghetti and meatballs and her chocolate cake with chocolate and peanut butter icing.
