Ida Mccann

IDA MAE SAYLOR McCANN, age 83 died on August 31, 2011 in Manassas, VA, due to complications from pneumonia. She was born on October 17, 1927 in Greenville, Pennsylvania to the late Duward Roland and Theodora Augusta (Ryan) Saylor. Ida graduated in 1945 from Penn High School in Greenville, PA. She was a spunky, petite, go getter with a beautiful smile and stunning blue eyes. In her younger years she was a Bell Telephone Operator. She loved to play cards, was an avid sports fan and a voracious reader. Ida loved to Jitter Bug, with her small frame she was ideal for throwing and tossing around while dancing to her favorite Big Band Music. She married Robert James McCann on May 31, 1952 where they began traveling and visiting many places around the world. Ida was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who spent many hours preparing holiday meals, raising her children and grandchildren and attended as many activities as possible involving her family. She was a member of Manassas Presbyterian Church for over 30 years, which she attended regularly with her daughter. Preceded in death by her parents; her infant son; her brothers: Art and Vernon Saylor and her sister, Louise Sweigard. Survivors include her loving husband Robert James McCann; two children: Noreen Carol McCann and Darren Robert McCann all of Manassas, VA; daughter through marriage, Carolyn McCann, and two granddaughters: Melissa and Shawna McCann, all of Warrenton, VA; a sister Vivian Tanney and a brother Roy Saylor, both of Greenville, PA; and a sister Ruth Slater of Stoneboro, PA. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 9, 2011 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, VA, 20110. A celebration of Ida's life will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Manassas Presbyterian Church, 8201 Ashton Avenue, Manassas, VA, 20109 with Rev. Dr. Skip Ferguson officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to: Manassas Presbyterian Church.
