Freddie Belmont Rankin

Freddie Belmont Rankin, "Fred," loving father, father-in-law, and beloved member of the community passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 24 at the age of 86. He had celebrated his 86th birthday on the 22nd of June with family, friends, and caregivers. Fred was born June 22, 1929 in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Clara and Russell Rankin. One of thirteen children, Fred was predeceased by eight brothers and two sisters. Fred's memory will live on in the hearts of his sister Tempey and brother John who returned to live in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, the family's beloved hometown. Fred was a State Farm Insurance agent for 36 years, working side by side with his late wife Ruth in the business that he loved and was honored by many times. He was a lifelong resident of Northern Virginia, leaving his hometown of Berkeley Springs at age 18, when he married the love of his life Ruth Marie Ambrose, whom he met in kindergarten. Fred was a member of the Springfield Franconia Lions Club and a Life Member in Perpetuity of Henry Knox Field Lodge N. 349, Alexandria, Va. and Masonic Veteran of Acadia Lodge No. 16, Clifton, Va. and 32 degree Member of the Scottish Rite, Alexandria, Va. Fred was a member of the Clifton Presbyterian Church where he mentored many members on faith, honesty, and generosity of spirit and love. He will be missed by all of his church family. Survivors include two children, Vicki Gately and husband Bary of Annapolis, Maryland and Cindi Snoddy and her husband Jeff of Gainesville, Virginia, brother, John Rankin and sister Tempey Lansing, both of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, and great goddaughter Marie-Claire Richard in Canada. To know Fred was to love Fred. He gave freely of his time, knowledge and faith. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The family will receive friends 12:00-2:00PM and 4:00-6:00PM Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, VA. Funeral Services will be 11:00AM Monday, June 29, 2015 at Clifton Presbyterian Church, 12748 Richards Lane, Clifton, VA with Rev. Lynn Stanton-Hoyle officiating. Interment will follow at Union Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Berkeley Springs, WV.
