Douglas Fredrick Berhalter

Doug Berhalter, Big Hearted, loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and dear friend passed away suddenly Monday morning, September 1, 2014 at the age of 43 years. Douglas is survived by his wife, Teresa Berhalter; his children, Tanner Berhalter and Thomas Wilson Jr, of Manassas, VA; his parents, Eileen and Larry Mayfield and Frederick and Joyce Berhalter, of Pawleys Island, SC; Wonderful Big Brother, Greg BERHALTER, loving siblings Michael, Sean, Shannon Kearney, sister in law Karen, Nephew Derek, Nieces Kelsey and Courtney who he loved greatly of Farnham, VA and 3 uncles Byron, Edward and Bob. Douglas was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edward and Mary Bobilin, of Upper Saddle River, NJ and Victor and Jean Berhalter of Summit, NJ. Douglas was born on May 26, 1971 in Silver Spring, Md. to Eileen and Fred Berhalter. His childhood was filled with summers outside building forts, stealing apples for his grandmother and fishing with his uncle and brother, visiting his grandmother’s house where he would jump into her freezing swimming pool. As a teenager his late night escapades earned him the title, "Prince of Darkness". He graduated from Osborn Park Senior High in 1989. When he met Teresa, he knew she was the love of his life, and they married in 1994. Doug was a loving husband to his wife Teresa. He was a devoted father to both sons Tanner and TJ. Doug raised his sons by his example of hard work, dedication and affection. His passion for life was evidenced by the adventures he lived with his family and friends, boating, hunting, fishing, camping and canoeing, venturing out on rides on his motorcycle. He will forever be remembered as a true friend and big brother to all his long life friends, 2nd father to his friend’s children. Doug never met a stranger. He could always make you smile, or tell a joke that could make you laugh hard enough to make you cry. Big heart, caring, supportive man that would do for you before doing for himself. More than can ever be describe in words is how people, friends, coworkers and family felt about him. A small service will be held and is scheduled for 1:00 pm Sunday September 7 at Pierce Funeral Home in Manassas. 9609 Center St, Manassas, VA. A reception and a celebration of his life is to follow at 2:00 at the Occoquan Forest Lake pavilion in Occoquan Forest Estates - Split Rail Dr (where it is rumored that this was the place were skinny-dipping occurred regularly until his mother, Eileen, would show up and force everyone out).
