Dorothy Pierce Schuetze

We never know where life is going to take us. We don’t know if the road will be rocky, windy, or smooth. We don’t know how deep, how high, or how wide the valleys will go. But one thing we know for sure is that no matter what our circumstance are, Jesus is always walking with us, and Jesus did just that for Dorothy “Dottie” Schuetze. Jesus came to take Dottie home on Thursday, January 26, 2023. She was in the comfort of her home when the Lord called her home to Heaven. She was surrounded by her son, Bill, daughter-in-law, Mary and Nurse Maritza. Dottie wanted to live to the age of 95, but fell just shy of her goal, being the young age of 94 11/12 years of age. Dottie was born on February 28, 1928. She was the daughter of The Reverend Nelson C. Pierce and Helen L. Temby Pierce. She was the wife of William E. Schuetze, Jr. The mother of William N. Schuetze and wife, Mary of Luray, VA. And Janet L. Schuetze Swecker and husband, The Reverend Dr. James Swecker of St. Leonard, MD. She was Nana to four grandchildren, B. J. Schuetze and wife Kelly of Holyoke MA, Amanda Hall and husband Steve of Shelburne Falls, MA, Christopher Swecker and wife Alyson of York Springs, PA and Jenny Swecker of Newnan, GA. Step grandchildren April Kendal and husband Scott, Larry Stoker, Ashley Stoker, Matthew Woods, Audriana Banister, Kelsie Liiamitiaman and husband Reid. She was great grandmother to Michael and Jonathan Schuetze and Alex Hall. Step great grandmother to Hudson. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Dottie was a faithful and active member of Springfield United Methodist Church in Springfield, VA for 70 years. She served on many boards and committees. She was active in the UMW, Chancel Choir, Handbell Choir, and The Celebration Singers. Not only was she a member of the Church, she also worked at the Church as the Assistant Financial Secretary and the Christian Education Director. She also worked as the Secretary at Pender United Methodist Church, Pender, VA. She is a former employee of Fairfax County Public Schools (VA) where she worked in the Textbook Division and later as the Chief of Financial Services. She loved to sing. She was a member of two choral groups, The Celebration Singers and Women of Note. She also liked sew, do counted cross-stitch, knit, and crochet. She had a passion for the Dramatic Arts and she became very active in “The Little Theater Company” in Heritage Hunt once they moved to Gainesville, VA. Dottie had several Leading Roles during her time with the Theater Company. At the age of 94 she had her final Leading Lady Role and two weeks after the show closed, she became ill and was never able to return to the stage. In addition to her parents, Dottie is the last of her generation to earn her final resting place in Heaven, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, William E. Schuetze, Jr. and her brother, Nelson C. Pierce, Jr. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 5, 2023 from 3:00PM until 5:00 PM a Pierce Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, Va. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, February 6, 2023 at Springfield United Methodist Church, 7047 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield, VA. Interment will be private.
