Cesar Augusto Arana Flores March 11, 1956 – August 6, 2026 Cesar Augusto Arana Flores was born on March 11, 1956, in Suchitepéquez, Guatemala, to Martha Flores de Arana and Gerardo Arana Estrada. He was the third of twelve children. Affectionately known as "Guto" as a child, Cesar was ambitious, determined, and endlessly curious. From a young age, he learned to work hard, be resourceful, and stay persistent alongside his siblings as they spent their early years in Mazatenango. His father used to tell Cesar and his siblings sayings like "No se me hagan chibolitas,” meaning don’t crumble under pressure, step up to a challenge, you can do the job just as well as anybody else. Teachings like these helped shaped his character at a young age. Later, his family moved to Quetzaltenango, where he spent the remaining years of his childhood. It was there that his family was introduced to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was baptized alongside his parents when he was nine years old. A devoted member of his faith, Cesar served a full-time mission for the church in El Salvador. After finishing his schooling in Guatemala, Cesar began a career in accounting at El Banco Industrial in Guatemala City. During this successful early chapter of his life in Guatemala, he met the love of his life, Norma Rojo. Cesar and Norma made the courageous decision to postpone their wedding until they could both safely immigrate and build a life together in America. They spent a short time apart while Norma established residency, and were reunited and married for time and all eternity on August 18, 1984, in the Washington D.C. Temple. They settled in Salt Lake City, Utah, where Cesar tirelessly worked two and sometimes three full-time jobs to support his wife and newborn child. After a few years, they relocated to Northern Virginia, where they planted deep roots, built a home, and raised their children. That early ambition and stubborn determination evolved into a life defined by courage, perseverance, and resilience. An example of his courage was when he went back to school while working tirelessly for years to obtain his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He was a lover of people and a constant source of encouragement, always inspiring those around him to strive to be their best selves. Cesar was a man of unwavering faith who truly loved the Church and cherished every opportunity to serve. Throughout his life, he left a lasting impact on countless individuals through his various leadership callings and service roles. His devotion was unmistakable—when Sunday church services were reduced from three hours to two, while most celebrated the shorter schedule, Cesar remarked with a smile that he preferred the three-hour block and would miss every extra minute! Cesar is survived by his beloved wife, Norma; his children, Martha (Joshua) Harmon, Ervin Arana, Cesar (Brittany) Arana, and Emmanuel Arana; his grandchildren, Madsen, Pierson, Finley, Ellie, Jacom, and Sosie; and his siblings, Gerardo, Sandra, Arturo, Guillermo, and Saul. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Ervin, Ruty, Alma, Virginia, and Bebedly. Fue el tercero de doce hermanos. Cariñosamente conocido como "Guto" durante su infancia, Cesar fue un niño ambicioso, decidido y profundamente curioso. Desde muy joven aprendió el valor del trabajo duro, la perseverancia y el ingenio junto a sus hermanos mientras crecía en Mazatenango. Su padre solía compartir con él y sus hermanos dichos como "No se me haga chibolitas", lecciones de vida que moldearon su carácter desde temprana edad. Tiempo después, su familia se trasladó a Quetzaltenango, donde transcurrió el resto de su infancia. Fue allí donde su familia conoció La Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días, siendo bautizado junto a sus padres a la edad de nueve años. Devoto a su fe, Cesar sirvió una misión de tiempo completo para La Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días en El Salvador. Al terminar sus estudios en Guatemala, comenzó su carrera contable en El Banco Industrial en la Ciudad de Guatemala. Durante esta etapa de éxito profesional en su país natal, conoció al amor de su vida, Norma Rojo. Cesar y Norma tomaron la valiente decisión de posponer su boda hasta que ambos pudieran emigrar de manera segura y construir un futuro juntos en Norteamérica. Tras un breve tiempo separados mientras Norma establecía su residencia, se reencontraron y se unieron en matrimonio por el tiempo y por toda la eternidad el 18 de agosto de 1984 en el Templo de Washington D.C. Se establecieron en Salt Lake City, Utah, donde Cesar trabajó incansablemente en dos y hasta tres empleos a tiempo completo para sostener a su esposa y a su primogénito. Años más tarde, se mudaron al norte de Virginia, donde echaron raíces profundas, construyeron su hogar y criaron a sus hijos. Aquella ambición y firme determinación de su juventud se transformaron en una vida definida por la valentía, la perseverancia y la resiliencia. Un claro ejemplo de su coraje fue cuando decidió regresar a los estudios, trabajando arduamente durante años hasta obtener su Licenciatura en Contabilidad. Cesar fue un hombre cercano, apasionado por las personas y una fuente constante de apoyo, inspirando siempre a quienes lo rodeaban a dar lo mejor de sí mismos. Su fe fue inquebrantable; amaba profundamente a la Iglesia y atesoraba cada oportunidad de prestar servicio. A lo largo de su vida, dejó una huella imborrable en innumerables personas a través de sus diversos llamamientos de liderazgo y responsabilidades de servicio. Su devoción era inconfundible: cuando las reuniones dominicales de la iglesia se redujeron de tres horas a dos, mientras la mayoría celebraba el horario más corto, Cesar comentó con una sonrisa que él prefería el bloque de tres horas y que extrañaría cada minuto adicional. A Cesar le sobreviven su amada esposa, Norma; sus hijos, Martha (Joshua) Harmon, Ervin Arana, Cesar (Brittany) Arana y Emmanuel Arana; sus nietos, Madsen, Pierson, Finley, Ellie, Jacom y Sosie; y sus hermanos, Gerardo, Sandra, Arturo, Guillermo y Saul.
