Belinda Sue Boronkay

Belinda Sue Boronkay (Massengill), 74 of Manassas, VA passed away October 25, 2022, she was surrounded by her loving family at Heritage Village in Gainesville, VA. She was born August 26,1948 in Loudoun County, Tennessee to the late Austin E. and Juanita Arden Massengill. Belinda is survived by her husband of 50 years John N. Boronkay Jr, daughter Amanda N. Boronkay, and her precious granddaughter Brittany N. Boronkay who brought her so much love and joy. She is also survived by her sister Cynthia Massengill Taft and brother James Massengill of Montgomery, AL. Belinda was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She loved animals and shared her home with Brutus her grand puppy. Belinda grew up in Lenoir City, Tennessee a suburb, of Knoxville Tennessee, surrounded by her loving extended family. She enjoyed spending time at the lake fishing, boating, waterskiing, and outings with her Aunt Sue and Uncle Hugh Kirby and their family on their houseboat. Nearly all holidays were wonderful times with her grandparents, Earl and Nellie Massengill, her granny Arden (Maude Arden) as well as her many aunts, uncles, and cousins; holidays were always spent together as one big family. Belinda met the love of her life in August of 1972 when John was making a presentation at a conference at Middle Tennessee State University. Belinda was in the audience and after his presentation he walked up to her and asked her out. On the first date he asked her to marry him, on the second date she said yes. They got married on September 21 after teaching school all day and before attending a junior high school football game that night. Belinda then moved to Manassas, Virginia in 1978. Belinda enjoyed spending time with her family on vacations visiting extended family in Upstate New York, East Tennessee, and Montgomery, Alabama. After graduating from Lenoir City High School in 1966; Belinda continued her education graduating from Tennessee Tech University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Vocational Home Economics. She then went on to earn a Master of Science Degree from East Tennessee State University in Early Childhood Education. She taught students in kindergarten through seniors in the high school for Johnson City Tennessee Public Schools. In 1978, she was hired by Manassas City Public Schools and taught second grade at Weems Elementary School until her retirement in 2007, where she completed thirty-five years of teaching. She cherished each of her students as if they were her own, along with her coworkers who became her life-long friends. Once she retired, she soon began missing the students, so she started substitute teaching for several years after. Upon her retirement in 2007, Belinda was diagnosed with Leukemia. After successful treatments, she had been in remission for 15 years. She loved spending time outside gardening, playing with her daughter when she was a child and then with her granddaughter. Belinda enjoyed time in the mountains, boating on the river and the lake, also a nice walk on the beach feeling the ocean breeze. She especially enjoyed vacationing to The Outer Banks of North Carolina, as well as the beautiful Gulf Coast beaches of Florida. Once John and Belinda retired, they enjoyed traveling and one of their last big trips was a River Boat trip on the Mississippi River. Belinda was diagnosed with Dementia in January of 2020, by University of Virginia’s Memory Clinic. She would not let that stop her or slow her down. She was strong willed and independent as much as she could be. She enjoyed going to a monthly breakfast with the retired teachers from Weems Elementary. She liked attending church weekly with John. She enjoyed taking walks with John and Brutus. She enjoyed watching the neighborhood children play after school and on their school breaks. Everyone who had contact with Belinda described her as wonderful, caring woman, a great teacher and friend, a precious lady, a beautiful and kind special lady, a dear friend with a beautiful smile and loving heart. She was a wonderful, caring lady who will be missed by all who were blessed to know her.
