Anita Valentina Linares

In Loving Memory Anita Valentina Linares, beloved mother and grandmother, joined the Virgin Mary and the angels in heaven on December 9th, 2021, while in hospice at her son’s home in Haymarket, VA. She was surrounded until the end by those she loved and who in turn loved her very much – her children, her daughter-in-law, her grandchildren, and her adopted family - the Browns. She is also deeply mourned by her family across the world and in Peru, her home country. The fourth child of Pedro Osorio Buendía and Antonina Sermeño Obregon, Anita Valentina was born on July 25, 1944, in the port city of Callao. Don Pedro, who hailed from the coastal town of Pimentel, was a sailor in Peru’s War Navy. Antonina was a homemaker who had immigrated to Lima as a teen from the high-altitude Andean city of Huaraz. Anita was one of eight siblings and was preceded in death by the oldest, Pedro Osorio. She is survived by her other siblings: Norma Luz (Germany), Flora Mercedes (Peru), Roberto Justo (Venezuela), Antonina “Blanca” Felicita (Germany), and Rosa Felicita (Uruguay), and Luis “Lucho” Trinidad (Panama). Anita attended Colegio Bozano (high school) in Callao, where she excelled in academics. She received her B.A in elementary school education in 1969 and became a teacher like her maternal grandmother. Anita began her career teaching indigenous children at a Catholic mission school in a remote rainforest village named Quellouno in Cusco, she later taught elementary school in Puerto Maldonado and Lima. After immigrating to the United States in the early 1980’s Anita still found ways to teach and nurture: she taught Spanish to home-schooled students, taught religious education classes at All Saint’s Church, and taught Spanish to her grandchildren. Throughout the three decades that she lived in Manassas, Anita counselled many young Latina women, whom she met through work, the community, and Church. She would give them practical life advice and donations and would connect them with social services and legal aid. Anita set an example for ethical and compassionate conduct, which has inspired her children and grandchildren. Anita was above all a well-read and intellectually curious woman. She read voraciously and loved reading folktales from the various countries that she visited: Mexico, Honduras, Venezuela, Panama, Paraguay and Europe. Anita loved nature and would have liked to become a biologist, given the incredible animal diversity she’d admired in her younger years working in remote areas of Peru. It is then no surprise that Anita has a collection of over 800 turtles of various designs, materials, and sizes, which she acquired during her travels, while antiquing, and which she received as birthday and holidays gifts. Most of those who met Anita would say that she was the quintessential “life of the party.” Her energy lit up the room. She loved to dance salsa and danced it well. In her retirement years, her children and grandchildren would often walk into the kitchen and find Anita making dinner while dancing salsa and singing. Anita will always be remembered as a loving, devoted, yet firm mother and a vivacious, lively, and nurturing grandmother. She is survived by her three adult children: Hugo Gregorio Linares (Hope), Vilma Belinda Linares, Juan Carlos Linares, who credit their professional achievements to her dedication and support. She’s also survived by her grandchildren: Audreyanna Noel Linares, Morgan Jean Mittelman-Linares (Gary), Gregorio Viracocha Linares, Paola Victoria Linares. Services will be held on Thursday, December 16th, 2021, at Pierce Funeral Home from 7-9pm, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, VA, 20110. The funeral mass will be held on Friday, December 17th, 2021, at noon, All Saints Catholic Church, 9300 Stonewall Road, Manassas, VA, 20110. A reception at Pierce Funeral Home will follow directly after mass. Linares Anita Valentina Linares, amada madre y abuela, partió al cielo el 9 de diciembre de 2021 estando en casa de su hijo, Hugo “Goyo” Linares, en Haymarket, VA. Hasta el final, estuvo rodeada de sus seres queridos: sus hijos, su nuera, sus nietos y su familia adoptiva, la familia Brown. Su familia alrededor del mundo y en el Perú, su país de origen, la recuerdan con cariño y admiración y acompañan a sus hijos en su profundo dolor. La cuarta hija de Pedro Osorio Buendía y Antonina Sermeño Obregón, Anita Valentina nació el 25 de Julio de 1944 en la provincia constitucional y ciudad portuaria del Callao, Perú. Su padre, Don Pedro, norteño nacido en Chiclayo, fue oficial de la Marina de Guerra del Perú. Antonina, su madre quien era originaria de la ciudad andina de Huaraz, fue ama de casa y tuvo ocho hijos. Anita es precedida en muerte por su hermano mayor, Pedro Osorio. Le sobreviven sus hermanos: Norma Luz (Alemania), Flora Mercedes (Perú), Roberto Justo (Venezuela), Antonina “Blanca” Felicita (Alemania) y Rosa Felicita (Uruguay), y Luis “Lucho” Trinidad (Panamá). Anita estudió en el Colegio Bozano del Callao donde se destacó académicamente. Luego, recibió el título de profesora de educación primaria en 1969 del Instituto Superior de Formación Magisterial de Breña; haciéndose maestra tal como lo fue su abuela materna. Anita comenzó su carrera dando clases a niños indígenas en una escuela de misiones en un pueblo llamado Quellouno en La Convención, Cuzco. Luego, después de emigrar a los Estados Unidos en 1982, y de vivir en Houston y luego en Manassas, VA, Anita encontró formas de seguir enseñando: daba clases de lenguaje y español a estudiantes educados en casa, enseñó clases de educación religiosa en La Iglesia de All Saints, y también enseñó español a sus nietos. A lo largo de las tres décadas que vivió en Manassas, Anita ofreció ayuda a numerosas mujeres de origen latino, a quienes conoció a través del trabajo, la comunidad, y la Iglesia. Les daba consejos prácticos de vida, les proporcionaba ayudas económicas, las conectaba con servicios sociales, y las acercaba a Dios. Ese espíritu de querer ayudar a los demás, hoy se refleja en sus hijos y sus nietos. Ella siempre fue un ejemplo de compasión y de conducta ética para su familia y para quienes la conocían bien. Entre todas sus maravillosas cualidades, Anita se destacaba por ser una mujer muy intelectual y observadora. Le encantaba leer cuentos y leyendas de los distintos países que visitó como: México, Honduras, Venezuela, Panamá, Paraguay, Alemania, Italia, Francia y España. Su escritor favorito era José Saramago. Anita amaba la naturaleza y siempre soñó con ser bióloga, especialmente al quedarse impactada por la deslumbrante belleza y diversidad de la flora y fauna que conoció cuando vivió en la selva y sierra del Perú y durante sus viajes por el mundo. Vale destacar que Anita tenía una colección de más de 800 tortugas de varios diseños, materiales y tamaños, que adquirió durante sus viajes, en tiendas de antigüedades; y que recibía como regalos de cumpleaños y días festivos. Y recordando los días festivos, merece la pena decir que Anita era siempre el alma de las fiestas. Su energía radiaba. Le encantaba bailar salsa y la bailaba muy bien. Muy a menudo, sus hijos y nietos la sorprendían en la cocina bailando salsa y cantando mientras preparaba sus ricos platos peruanos. Ella era perspicaz, bailarina, cálida, con un gran sentido del humor y mucho talento para hacer reir a la gente. Fue una mujer muy culta, y con una increíble capacidad para resolver problemas y situaciones inesperadas de manera rápida e ingeniosa. Anita será eternamente recordada como una madre cariñosa y dedicada, y como una abuelita vivaz y alegre. Le sobreviven sus tres hijos adultos: Hugo Gregorio Linares (Hope), Vilma Belinda Linares, Juan Carlos Linares, quienes atribuyen sus logros profesionales al apoyo moral y el amor incondicional que les dio su madre. También le sobreviven sus nietos: Audreyanna Noel Linares, Morgan Jean Mittelman-Linares (Gary), Gregorio Viracocha Linares, Paola Victoria Linares y sus nietos indirectos, Alishia y Steven Brown. La velatorio se celebrará a las 7 pm el 16 de diciembre en Pierce Funeral Home (9609 Center St, Manassas, VA 20110). La misa fúnebre se llevará a cabo el viernes 17 de diciembre al mediodía en la Iglesia Católica All Saints (9300 Stonewall Rd, Manassas, VA 20110), seguida de una recepción en Pierce Funeral.
