Sinouane PhongPhila
November 5, 1925 - April 27, 2022
On April 27, 2022, the PhongPhila family lost its patriarch. Our amazing father Sinouane PhongPhila was born November 5, 1925, and took his last breath surrounded by his children at Novant Health Haymarket Medical Center at 10:45 am. He had an amazing life as captain of the Military Police of the King’s Laos/French army. He risked his life after the fall of Laos to bring his family to America by swimming across the Mekong River to a Thai refugee camp until they were all sponsored to America. After his children were all grown, he gave up the comforts of lay life to take vows as a Buddhist monk. He lived as a Buddhist monk spreading his knowledge across many temples throughout the United States until his death. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Phaly, his eldest son Souvanny, and his daughter Oubone. He is survived by his children and children in law: Vannaly and Nikone Sonsynath, Sopone PhongPhila, Kosonh and Nuntaya PhongPhila, Giesone and Vilavanh PhongPhila, Malaypone and Vilasith Sananikone, and Phetsamone and Brian Pearson. He had 20 grandkids who have given him a village of great grandkids to forward his legacy. Please join us in celebrating our father’s life as we lay him to rest in a traditional Buddhist service at Pierce Funeral Home 5/21/2022 at noon-3 pm. Thank you.
