Sean Callahan

Sean T. Callahan was born on Flag Day, June 14, 1987 in Manassas, VA., youngest of four children. He grew up in the Prince William County area, graduating from Brentsville High School in 2005. Sean was an accomplished guitar player who loved music of all kinds and went out of his way to encourage younger players. He had an incredible way of lighting up any room he entered and could turn the world on its ear with his eyes and smile. He believed deeply in his calling to defend the freedoms in our country and help those fighting for human dignity and freedom in other countries. He joined the Marine Corps in 2008. While he was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, he was an antitank missileman, and was meritoriously promoted to Sergeant on 2 February 2011. Sergeant Callahan served in Iraq from August to October 2009. He was redeployed to Helmand Province, Afghanistan and was killed in action on 23 April 2011 while in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. His awards include the Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. He is survived by his parents Patrick and Janet Callahan, a brother Corporal Daniel Callahan USMC, two sisters Heather and Melodie Callahan. He will be missed greatly by all who know and love him. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 30, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Sunday, May 1, 2011 from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, VA where a funeral service will take place on Sunday at 5:30 PM. A funeral procession will leave Pierce Funeral Home on Monday, May 2, 2011 at 9:30 AM. Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at 11:00 AM with full military honors.
