Roy Carl Whaley Jr.

January 4, 1939 - April 19, 2022

Roy Carl Whaley, Jr. of Bristow, VA went to be with the Lord on April 19, 2022 in Manassas, VA. Roy was 83 years old and a long time member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Falls Church, VA. He was born January 4, 1939 in Pittman Center, TN. He left home and later met his beautiful wife of 63 years while working together at the FBI in Washington, D.C. He worked hard to support his family and at one time worked 3 jobs: FBI, Safeway, and Exxon. In 1964, Roy began a 40 year career as a State Farm Agent in Arlington, VA. While working as a State Farm Agent, he earned the highest accolades and trips around the world. He loved his job so much that he “recruited” many family members to join the company. Although he enjoyed his work, his family and friends were always his top priority. Some of his favorite things to share with his family and friends were his garden and it’s bounty, fishing, poker, sports (Redskins & Wizards), traveling (especially out west), being outdoors, and food. Roy was always making jokes that had those around him laughing. Preceding him in death were his parents Roy and Zelma Whaley of Sevierville, TN and his brother Rex Whaley of Greenville, TN. He is survived by his wife, Mary-Alice, his son, Steve (Kim) Whaley, his daughter, Terry (W.S.) Gay and four grandchildren: Jeremy Whaley, Jessi Whaley, Megan (Daniel) Deem, and Courtney Gay. He is also survived by his siblings: Betty Jo (Delmus) Ledford of Knoxville, TN, Mary Ruth Lambrecht of Knoxville, TN, Clara (Wendell) Whaley of Cleveland, TN, Ronnie (Virginia) Whaley of Hickory, NC and sister-in-law Marcia Whaley of Greenville, TN, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. The Visitation will be held on Monday, April 25, 2022 at 3:00 PM with a Funeral Service at 5:00 PM at Friendship United Methodist Church, 3520 Gallows Road, Falls Church VA 22042. The Burial will take place on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Stonewall Memorial Gardens, 12004 Lee Highway Manassas, VA 20109. In lieu of flowers, we ask for a donation to Friendship United Methodist Church or to the National Park Foundation at nationalparks.org which helps to support all the parks he loved to visit.
