Mary Virginia Utterback Houck Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

On June 27, 2022, Mary Virginia Utterback Houck, loving sister, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 at Advent Health Altamonte Springs after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s. Mary was born on March 30, 1939 in Prince William County, Virginia to Lorenzo and Hazel Utterback. She briefly worked for the Pentagon, until she relocated to Florida after marrying Errol Allen Houck on January 3, 1962. They raised three children, two sons, Ernest, Stephen and a daughter, Shanna. Upon moving to Florida in 1967, Mary worked for Hudson Paper and Pulp until her second child, a daughter, was born. She became a stay at home mom, and welcomed her third child, a son. In 1979, she went to work for Mellon Elementary School, from which she retired to Casselberry, Florida in 2004 to be close to her children. Mary had a passion for painting. She had taken a few art classes to improve her technique and was proud when entering her paintings in local contests or even just giving them to friends and family as gifts. Her other passion was gardening. She spent hours on end working to beautify the landscaping around her home, which even included mowing the grass. Mary was preceded in death, by her father, Lorenzo, mother, Hazel and brother, Stewart. She is survived by her son Ernest Houck and his wife Audrey, her daughter Shanna Woolsey and her husband Kristofer, her son Stephen Houck and his wife Regina, her brother Lorenzo Utterback, her brother Jimmy Utterback and his wife Vickie, sister Nancy Lindgren and husband Ken and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Grandma Mary will also be missed by grandchildren, Tyler Houck, Chloe’ Athan, Aaron Houck, Sydney Houck, Jay Houck and Colton Woolsey. A funeral service will be held to celebrate her life at 11:00 am on July 11, 2022 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, Virginia 20110. Graveside service will immediately follow at Nokesville Church of the Brethren, Valley View Cemetery, Nokesville VA 20181.
