Louis Maiuri

Louis Maiuri of Haymarket, Virginia entered heaven on Monday March 7. He was born in Paterson, New Jersey on January 4, 1958 to Frank and Josephine (Pappano)Maiuri. Louis was the beloved husband of Karen Maiuri (Leger) and loving father to Alexandra and Louis, Jr. He is survived by his brother Nick and sister Angela, both of Mt. Laurel, NJ and his parents Frank and Josephine of Hainesport NJ. Louis earned his undergraduate degree at Catholic University in Chemical Engineering. He also received a dual masters from George Washington University in Civil and Environmental engineering. He began his career at B.P Petroleum in Marcus Hook, NJ and then began his career with the Department of the Navy in 1983. His first position was at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard and he moved with his family from New Jersey to Lakeridge, VA in 1990. From the beginning of his tenure with the Department of the Navy he initiated bold and innovative programs designed to reflect Navy’s emphasis on a “top to bottom” culture of environmental stewardship. He spent 31 years with the Department of the Navy and retired in December of 2013 reaching the highest level GS service. He received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award the second highest award given to civilian employees of the Federal government. Louis was a devoted father to Alex and Louis and shared his love of music with them, building many family memories around his favorite band – DMB. Through his music love he met and maintained some very strong friendships. Louis was also a great lover of wine and as a self taught oenophile. His love of wine was something he shared with everyone. When friends needed help they would always turn to him for suggestions. Louis became an instant friend to all those he met. He had an eclectic group of very close friends whom he derived much joy from. His spirit will live on through his dear family and all those he touched. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 3:30 pm Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center St., Manassas, VA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Monday, March 14, 2016 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 8213 Linton Hall Road, Gainesville, VA In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the KYlabrescue.com. Louis strongly believed in rescue and his three dog loves were Sammy, Lucas, and Sophie.
