Lawrence Keith Daum

December 15, 1953 - April 16, 2022

Lawrence Keith (Smithson) Daum, 68, of Bristow, Virginia, passed away on April 16, 2022. He was born on December 15, 1953 in Nashville, Tennessee, the son of Kenneth Smithson and Martha (Mendenhall) Daum. He was then adopted by Roger Daum. Larry (as he was known to all his friends and family) had a long and happy life and died peacefully in his sleep at the Adler Center after a short battle with a cancer. Larry was an avid reader and a believer in a true democracy. After earning his Master’s degree in Political Science he travelled around the world to pursue his passion and helped governments to develop capacity for economic growth and democracy. The simplest pleasures in life brought a great joy to Larry. He loved to sing (and was good at it) and had directed and played in community theater musicals while living in Vermont. He loved a quiet evening with his family, his dog Zeus and a glass of red wine in hand. His joyful personality was contagious to everyone he met. He is survived by his wife, Renata Daum and three children, Valen Daum, Torin Daum, Tara (Daum) Harrison. He was beloved granddaddy to Ashley and Lauren. Mother, Martha Ann Daum; Siblings, Mary Daum, John Daum, Cathee Daum, Michael Smithson and Melissa Smithson, and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held for Lawrence at 11:00 AM at Pierce Funeral Home Celebration of Life Room (9609 Center Street, Manassas, Virginia 20110). Light refreshments will be served.
