Joseph Franklin Glines

Joseph (Joe) Franklin Glines (Sr.) born April 9, 1951 passed away on June 24, 2024 (73 yrs.) at the Alder Center for Care in Aldie, VA. Joe is predeceased by his father Galen Keith Glines and mother Hazel Perry Glines. Survivors are his loving wife of 37 years Janice L. R. Glines of the home, son Joseph Franklin Glines II of WV, sister Gail Cisler of Manassas, brother William Glines of Wise, VA, brother Dale Glines of Catlett, VA. Also surviving are grandchildren Roger Glines-Cassell, Amanda Scarfi, great granddaughter Elena, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Joe grew up locally in Manassas Park, and lived as an adult in Georgetown South, Gainesville, Lomond, Nokesville and Manassas Park. As a child he attended Bennett primary school, Manassas Park Elementary, Parkside Middle and Unity Reed (when it was Stonewall Jackson) High School. He left school early and attained a GED after starting working for a living. Joe was a worker for most of his life. His first job was as a paper carrier for the Journal Messenger in Manassas Park. He followed that with working most all positions at the old Manassas Drive in movie theatre, and the sister theatre Reb Yank. After leaving school he worked at Corky’s Auto Body in Haymarket, VA. He spent many years as a carpenter helping in building townhouses locally in Point of the Woods area of Manassas. He also helped build parts of, and helped in roofing the sanctuary of, All Saints Catholic Church. He followed those up with moving up through the ranks of Fairfax County Public Works (Storm Water Management) from laborer, truck driver to Heavy Equipment Operator and retired after almost 30 years of service in 2005. Shortly after he retired, he returned for a year to teach a class on equipment operating and attaining CDLs. In retirement he enjoyed taking care of his truck, house and yard and feeding wildlife in his yard. He loved going to vintage car shows and taking long rides around the county just to see the changes. Sometimes he would visit a friend, or stop to watch deer or other wildlife he might see. Joe loved animals. He had many pets during his life; once he even had a duck for a pet. Joe loved his family and close friends. He wasn’t one for always saying it, but he would show it in his own way with advice or help. He had a gruff exterior, and was amused by coworkers calling him “Grump the Stump” —an affectionate name for his no nonsense working manner. He believed in doing jobs the right way, and doing them well. The family will receive visitors July 1, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, VA 20110. Joe’s funeral will be July 2, 2024 at 12:30 p.m. at Pierce Funeral Home with burial following at Stonewall Memory Gardens, 12004 Lee Highway, Manassas, 20109 at 2 p.m. Memorial gifts of flowers or a donation to Capital Caring for their wonderful Hospice care are welcome.
