Joann Marie Para, 85, of Manassas went to heaven on August 6, 2021. She was born and raised in Carbondale, PA where she was a cheerleader and proud graduate of Fell Township High School. She attended Lackawanna Community College in Scranton, PA. She married John Walter Para on October 26, 1957 and devoted 56 years to him before his passing in 2013. Her husband’s career led them to live New York, California, Mississippi, and Germany before setting down permanent roots in Manassas, Virginia in 1972. Here she worked for IBM as an Administrative Support Manager for 20 years while raising five children. She was a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Joann was a faithful member of All Saints Catholic Church since 1972 and was extremely active in the community. She was a member of the Lioness Club, Knights of Columbus Ladies’ Auxiliary, and a fond group of gals that were called Ladies Who Lunch. She enjoyed summer in North Myrtle Beach and hosting every holiday and birthday party for her family. She is survived by her son, R. Joseph Para, her daughters, Lynn Renee Para, and Lisa Marie Tomsko (Victor); her grandchildren, Christina Lee Peters (Edan), Austin Joseph Para (Kellie), Melissa Caitlin Para, Heather Marie Rinderle (Travis), Amanda Lynn Holt (Alex), and Michael Todd Para; her great-grandchildren, Eleyna, Cadyn, Owen, Olivia, and Logan; and her sister, Lillian Rowland. She was preceded in death by her father, Stanley Swencionis, stepfathers John Balunus and Wilfred Williams; her mother, Jenny Williams; her granddaughter, Taneha Terace Para; her sonin-law, Edward Billington Toth; her husband, John Walter Para, Sr.; daughter, Lori Ann Para; and son, John Walter Para, II. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 from 1:00-3:00PM and from 6:00-8:00 PM at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center St. Manassas, VA 20110. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 12, at 10:00 AM at All-Saints Catholic Church, 9300 Stonewall Rd. Manassas, VA 20110. Burial will them follow at Quantico National Cemetery at 11:30 AM, 18424 Joplin Rd. Triangle, VA 22172.
