Joan Batson Bunch

October 27, 1943 - February 19, 2022

With a heavy heart, we are sad to say our mom passed on February 19, 2022 at 5:30 AM. She has gone home to be with her mother and brother. Joan “Mama Bunch” was born on October 27, 1943 in Greenville, South Carolina to James and Eunice Batson. She relocated to the Washington, DC area when was a young woman and started working for the Dept. of the Navy. She met her husband shortly after and started her family. “Mama Bunch” was the best mother through and through. She was warm and kind and always made sure to tell the people she loved just how much she loved them. If you were lucky enough, she would have said to you “I love you to the moon and back” or “I love you from the bottom of my big toe”. Joan “Mama Bunch” is survived by her children, David Bunch and his wife Ileana, Chad Bunch and his wife Francesca, Mandi Bunch and her partner Arthur Smith, and Ryan Bunch and his wife Olivia; Grandchildren, Tyler Bunch, Johnathan Bunch, Courtney Bunch, Tadeo Bunch, Mateo Bunch, and Andy Bunch; Sister, Pat Edwards and her husband Bill; Nephews, Brad Batson and Tripp Edwards; Niece, Alyson Granger; and many other beloved family members. A viewing will be held from 5:00 PM- 8:00 PM on Friday, March 4th, 2022 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, Virginia 20110). Funeral services will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 5th, 2022, also at Pierce Funeral home. Family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the funeral service at the Pierce Funeral Home Celebration of Life room.
