Deborah Francine Smith
November 1, 1951 - November 19, 2021
Deborah Francine Smith was born 11/01/1951 to parents Landon Alexander Lacey (deceased) and Constance Laverne Douglas (deceased) in Middleburg, Virginia. She went to Banneker Elementary School in St. Louis, Virginia where she was bused from Middleburg due to schools being segregated. She went to Kent Middle School in Virginia, and later moved to Landover, MD where she graduated from Bladensburg High School. While in high school, she was a member of the Archery team. Deborah was an extraordinary interior designer. She adorned many of our homes with her loving touches of well-orchestrated décor. Her love of interior decorating shone through in the fine attention to detail that she prided herself on. There was never a crooked picture in any home where she graced her presence! Nonetheless, her love didn’t stop at interior decorating. It transcended into all areas of her life, including into those of her hobbies. Some of her hobbies included the nurturing of and caring for her house plants, playing cards with friends and family, watching movies and game shows, and shopping. Of course, her shopping focused on finding treasured items to decorate loved ones’ homes! Her love for family and friends was evident in everything that she did. However, her most prevalent and obvious joy centered around her family. For Deborah, family ALWAYS came first! There was absolutely NOTHING that she would not do for her loved ones. If she said that she “loved” you and that you were “family”, you better believe she made sure that you knew it. Whilst her love was portrayed by her many acts of kindness, her most favorite time of the year was Christmas. Her love transcended into the thoughtful gifts that she gave to everyone. She made sure that we always kept the tradition of our annual family gathering on Christmas Eve. Deborah is proceeded in death by her husband, Steven Smith and parents, Landon and Constance. She leaves in her physical absence the charge of carrying on her legacies of love and traditions to her three daughters: Lisa Lacey, Yolanda Lucas, and Olivia Brooks McGraw (Marvin /JR); one step-daughter Kim Smith James; one nephew/Son: Jay Lacey; four sisters: Beverly Ledbetter, Annette Horne, Jennifer Jones-Everett (Latenzar), and Marnie Lacy; one brother, Ramond “Duke” Bland; six grandchildren: Antione, Isaiah, Kaylynne, Drew, Darian, and Shyheim: fourteen great grandchildren; six sisters in-law; nine brothers in-law; seven aunts: one uncle; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
