Charles Edward McLane Sr.

October 30, 1940 - June 4, 2022

Charles E. McLane, Sr., 81, left his family and friends to go home to Heaven on Saturday, June 4, 2022. Born on October 30, 1940 to Irby Leroy and Annie Lou McLane, raised in Fairfax, VA. In 1960 he married his childhood sweetheart Patti. A loving husband of 62 years was his greatest accomplishment. Charles served twenty years on the United States Park Police force, retiring in 1980. He then went on to serve at the Environmental Protection Agency and then the United States Department of the Interior, where he served the Inspector General until 2011 with over 50 years of federal service to his credit. Charles and Patti raised 5 children from the 60’s through the 80’s, reaping the benefits of 10 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Never one to slow down, Charles spent the last several years as President of the Retired United States Park Police Association, (RUSPPA). Scheduled to pass the baton in just two weeks, Charles made another engagement instead, going home to meet his Savior face to face. Charles is survived by his wife Patricia Jane McLane, His Children Pamela Jean Crouse, Cynthia Lee Vargo, Lisa Ann McLane (Michele), Dana Marie Kostecka (Tony), and Charles Edward McLane, Jr. (Natalie); Ten grandchildren, Timothy David Bowersox, Danielle Renee Tazza, Morgan Ashleigh Stevenson (Robert), Andrew Michael Crouse, Hayley Alexandra Crouse, Justin Michael Vargo, Kristen Ann Kostecka, Charles Edward McLane, III, Harrison Asher McLane, and Brooklyn Grace McLane; five great-grandchildren, Mia, Emma, Hudson, Owen, and Rebecca. Charles is also survived by his sister Barbara Ann Kaiser, of Arizona and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Services for Charles are as follows: Pierce Funeral Home located at 9609 Center Street, Manassas, Virginia, 20110. Visitation Thursday, June 9th from 5pm until 8pm. Funeral at noon Friday, June 10th. Graveside service following at Stonewall Memory Gardens with reception to follow, address provided at graveside. Feel free to send flowers or in lieu of flowers, a donation to the American Heart Association and/or the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society.
