Blueprint of a Life: William "Bill" Taylor Mallon, Jr. With deep love and gratitude for a life so well lived, we share the passing of William "Bill" Taylor Mallon, Jr., who passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. The Foundation Bill was born on June 16, 1954, to William Taylor Mallon, Sr. and Dorothy Jeanette Baker. His family moved from Arlington, Virginia to Springfield, Virginia in 1965, the community he would call home for the rest of his life. Bill was raised in a nurturing, loving home where he learned the value of hard work and family devotion. He is survived by his beloved siblings, Brenda Briggs (Steve), Steve Mallon (Helen), and Linda Gregston (Cliff). It was during his years at Robert E. Lee High School that Bill met Cathy Cubbage, his high school sweetheart and eternal companion. He adored her completely. Together, they married and began building a life from the ground up, starting in a humble home that became the foundation for several future renovations as their family grew. Cathy remained his best friend, his greatest choice, and his constant partner in all things. The Early Drafts (Education & Career Journey) In the early 1970s, Bill initially enrolled at Randolph-Macon College near Richmond, Virginia. Though he appreciated the opportunity, his deep love for home and his high school sweetheart, Cathy, drew him back to Northern Virginia, where he chose to complete his education closer to family at George Mason University. In the early 1980s, Bill began working for Xerox Corporation. A standout employee, he was highly respected for his work ethic. Bill made the transition to public service around 1982, accepting a position with the Department of Health and Human Services. The Master Plan Driven by a desire to provide for his family and blessed with a creative mind, Bill became a self-taught designer and builder. In 1986, he founded his own design/build construction company, Total Living Construction, Inc. Over the decades, his talented hands drew countless blueprints and house plans, and his company brought beautiful spaces to life across the community. Yet, his most enduring work was built on an eternal foundation. Bill was a man of deep, abiding faith. As a devoted convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, his strong testimony of his Savior, Jesus Christ, guided everything he created and every life he touched. A Lifelong Passion Beyond his professional and spiritual pursuits, Bill was an avid, lifelong sports enthusiast. A naturally talented athlete, he was a highly valuable teammate from his elementary school days straight through high school, playing baseball, basketball, and football. In his later years, Bill found a new passion on the golf course, where he loved spending his time with friends and family. His Greatest Masterpiece Bill's family was the focus of his life and his greatest source of pride. He is survived by his cherished wife, Cathy Mallon; his five beloved children and their spouses, Leigh Miska (Vit), Courtney Lazear (Michael), Candace Jones (Brian), Lauren Hathaway (McKay), and William Mallon (Kayla); and his sixteen grandchildren, each a source of immense pride and his greatest joy: Charlie Miska (Annecy), Holly Miska, Mae Lazear, Evan Jones, Henry Miska, Owen Jones, Carter Lazear, Cora Hathaway, Rainey Jones, Caroline Miska, John Lazear, Baker Hathaway, Brooks Lazear, Margot Hathaway, Bode Jones, and Taylor Lazear. His life is a reminder that a well-built home stands long after the builder completes the project, and so it is with his legacy. Built on a foundation of prayer, integrity, and service, his life taught us that our connection to God is what sustains us through all trials. We will carry forward the values he lived, the love he gave, and the example that he set for all who knew him. Services A celebration of life will be held on July 31, 2026, at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 6219 Villa St, Alexandria, VA 22310. We welcome all who knew and loved Bill to attend and celebrate his beautifully constructed life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association in Bill’s memory to support research and help others facing the trials of this illness.
