William Carroll Latham Jr.

William Carroll Latham, Jr (Bill) went home to be with our Lord and Savior on November 7, 2022. Bill was born in Washington DC on June 12, 1933 to Edith Mae Latham and William Carroll Latham and was brought home to Waterloo Farm in Haymarket, VA three days later where he lived the remainder of his vibrant and adventurous life. Bill attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, VA and later served on the Board of Visitors. He loved those Hokies. He worked as a farmer, hotelier, investor and entrepreneur. He was strong, stubborn and hard working which helped make him a successful businessman but he also had a soft side that only a few knew. He was incredibly loyal, passionate, generous and loving. He was the rock of the family. On August 11, 1956 he married Elizabeth McGavock Heuser. Together they raised their four children, farmed Waterloo and ran Budget Motels, Inc. Bill loved flying and they flew for business as well as pleasure throughout the US and frequently to Canada where they had a cabin to which they would often retreat to snowmobile and relax. He loved to travel and they traveled the world together. Bill leaves to cherish his memory, Betty, his wife of 66 years; his children - daughter, Carroll Allen (Tony Allen); daughter, Ann Latham; son, John Latham (Cindy Latham); Son-in-Law, Biff Liddle; nine grandchildren - Taylor Oertling (Matthew Oertling); Ryan Martin (Rob Martin); Amanda Tucker (Scott Tucker); Elizabeth Kite (Sean Goodbody); Andy Latham (Lara Latham); Alex Latham; Joe Liddle (Sara Liddle); Courtney Barbour (Lance Barbour); Bailey Racer; and sixteen great grandchildren - Sam, Annie and Mary Oertling; Blakely Martin; Jacob, Nina, Leyton, Braden, Anden and Rowan Tucker; Colin Goodbody; Wesley and Evie Liddle; Kai and Glory Barbour; Cam Racer. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Susan Liddle, his grandson, Sam Allen and his great granddaughter, Isla Racer. He also leaves a host of cousins and friends to remember him well. A Celebration of Life service will be held from 3:00-4:00 pm on Saturday November 19, 2022 at Pierce Funeral Home, Manassas VA with Deb Angerman officiating. There will be visitation before from 2:00-3:00 and a reception following at the nearby City Tavern. Interment will be at Virginia Tech at a date to be announced later.
