Walter Boyd Morrow Jr.

Walter Boyd Morrow Jr. of Winchester, Virginia passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 30th, 2021. Born September 18, 1937, to Mary Helen Cecil and Walter Boyd Morrow Sr, in Somerset, Kentucky. He graduated from George Washington University with two Master of Science Degrees, one in Engineering, and the other in Physics. Walt received a U.S. Naval Academy Congressional Appointment. He spent the first couple years of his career in Navy Oceanographic Research. Finding ever expanding opportunities, he spent the next 50 years in Federal Civil Service, working for the U.S. Army Research and Development's Night Vision and Electro-Optic Laboratory at Ft Belvoir, VA. He retired in January of 2009. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, an avid fisherman, a U.S and World War history enthusiast, and a green thumb gardener. Walt enjoyed being a member of the Mormon Choir of DC for 30 years, however, his true passion was delving into family history through genealogy work along with locating and discovering family cemeteries. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth Vail Shilling. His Grandchildren: Christopher William Boyd Morrow, Shaun Cameron Morrow, Heather Anastasia Morrow (Fiance’-Donald “Blaine” Broschart), James Edward Hunt Morrow, Megan Amanda (Wesley Gingerich), Heather Breanne Morrow, Michael Edward Morrow, Desta Brianne Golden (Greg Taylor), Andrew Wesley Golden, Joshua Clark Golden (Hannah Tull), Benjamin Boyd Golden (Sina Kipry), Thor David Mikesell (Holly Roberts), Morgan Elena Scadden (Joshua) ,Esther Nikisha Krohn (Nikolaus), Caleb Vaun Mikesell (Devane), Seth Mason Mikesell (Parker), Artie Lyn Mikesell, Ellora Jeannette Mikesell, Alexander Boyd Morrow, and Josie Alice Morrow. His Great-Grandchildren: Jasmyn Estrelle Garza, Owen Blaine Morrow, Ashton Nicole Seiber, Daniel Morrow, Alexis Marie Morrow, Jaden Bryce Dimouro, Dax Gunner Golden Taylor, Ada Nanette Golden Taylor, Mae Fern Golden Taylor, Colten Robert Scadden, Zoey Cecelia Krohn, Torsten Klaus Krohn, Paisley Sage Krohn, Lincoln Holtom, Vienna Holtom, and Atlas Holtom. Funeral services will be 2pm on Friday, June 4th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at 230 Justes Drive Winchester, Virginia 22602. There will be a viewing from 1:30pm-1:50pm prior to the service. Internment will follow at the Shenandoah Memorial Park located at 1270 Front Royal Pike Winchester, Va 22602.
