Vera Louise Gerson

Vera Louise Gerson, 88, of Manassas, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025. She was born on November 24, 1936, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Maury Gerson and daughters Suzanne Salvo and Cindy Szwarckop (Andrew). Devoted Grammy to Eryn Szwarckop, Vincent Salvo, and Mia Salvo. Preceded in death by parents Daniel Lelan Carr and Fannie Elizabeth Savage Carr and siblings Harold Carr, Rosemary Carnes, and Melba Jean Carr. Vera and Maury met in Huntsville, Alabama. Maury affectionately tells the story that Vera picked him up at the hotel pool. This began their 60 year once in a lifetime love. Maury and Vera moved their family to Manassas, Virginia in 1973. They made lifelong friends and memories on Ivy Glen Court. The couple enjoyed their casino adventures together. They traveled to Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and Biloxi. Locally Vera looked forward to their day trips to the MGM Casino. Vera volunteered for many years in the Library at Weems Elementary school while completing her Library Science degree from Northern Virginia Community College. She worked in the Library at Jennie Dean Elementary School for 10 years until her first granddaughter was born. She then enjoyed spending time in North Carolina helping to take care of Eryn. After Vincent and Mia were born, she proudly took care of them also. Vera was an avid sports fan and loved watching baseball and college football. She especially loved watching her Alabama Crimson Tide. What gave her the most joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She attended every sporting event possible that her grandchildren participated in. Vera was a nurturer and took great pride in taking care of her loved ones. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 18th, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, VA. Burial service will be private for the family.
