Vann Scott Brooks

Vann Scott Brooks, also known as Poppi, Scooter Pie, and Skootz, age 70, quietly passed away on December 9, 2024 at his home in Compton, Maryland Scott was born on May 25, 1954, in Alexandria, Virginia. He is the son of the late Marjorie Lorraine Brooks and the late Rembert Paul Brooks Jr. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Kathleen Brooks, his step-mother, Jennifer Brooks, his brother Gary Brooks and sister-in-law Mary, his son and daughter-in-law Ryan and Cristina Brooks, his daughter and son-in-law Katy and Nathan Callihan, his four grandchildren, Malachy Callihan and his fiancé, Kiersten Twiggs, Anthony Brooks, Carson Callihan, Aidan Brooks, one great grandson, Kyler Brooks Callihan who will be just eight weeks old on December 19, 2024 and many, many friends. Scott was raised in Annandale, Virginia. He spent summers with his parents and brother at the Beach Cottage in Southern Maryland. He loved fishing, crabbing, tooling around in different boats he had over the years, hunting with his buddies at Twisted Knickers Camp and anything to do with the outdoors. He also loved to jump out of planes, just like his dad, and in later years, he easily learned how to fly them. Like his father “PB”, Scott joined Steamfitters Local Union #602. He began his Steamfitter apprenticeship in 1972. He worked for several different contractors, in several different states. From nuclear power plants on the West Coast, to military installations in North and South Carolina. His trade took him all over the US. He held multiple positions over his 46-year career, and he ultimately retired as the Vice President of Paramount Mechanical. Scott also devoted much of his time to the Steamfitters Local #602 Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (JATC). He joined the committee which provided policies and procedures for the operation of the very apprenticeship he attended. He and his fellow committee members spent countless days and evenings selecting candidates that would shape the future of the local! Scott was always happy, optimistic, and never met a stranger. He was a truly gentle and kind soul, always willing to lend an ear, or give someone a hand. The most important thing to him was spending time with family and friends. He was a voice of reason for many, a kind and generous man with a heart of gold. Poppi, we love you so very much. You will forever remain in our hearts. Smooth sailing!
