Thorpe Jordan

GENEVA THORPE JORDAN of Manassas, passed away at Prince William Hospital on April 5, 2010. Having just celebrated her 87th birthday, she was born to John and Alice Shafer Thorpe in Fauquier County on March 16, 1923. She was predeceased by her two husbands, Andrew Worth Sampsell, "Tom", in 1960 and Charles Richard Jordan "Dick", in 2001; a son, William Wade Jordan, and two siblings, Snowden Jackson Thorpe and Bessie Lunceford. Mrs. Jordon attended and graduated from Marshall High School in Fauquier County and attended Strayer's College for a brief period before starting to work for the Federal Government in Washington, D.C. She married Tom Sampsell in 1947 when they subsequently moved back to Fauquier County and where she worked at Vint Hill Farms Station until her retirement in 1976. In 1963 she married Dick Jordan and they maintained a home in Haymarket, Virginia for many years before moving to Manassas. After retirement she spent her years enjoying her family and friends, community work, and traveling. She was a member of Wimodausis Chapter 106 Order of the Eastern Star, Past Bethel Guardian of Bethel 21 International Order of Job's Daughters, and a past Chapter Mom of the Manassas Chapter Order of DeMolay and NARFE. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Worth Sampsell of Colonial Beach, VA and a son, Richard Boxley Jordan of Augusta, West Virginia. Also surviving is her daughter-in-law, Terri Jordan (Wade) of Front Royal, VA; six grandchildren Alice Worth Elliott (Kenneth), Fredericksburg, Andrea Leigh McDaniel, Annandale, Jenny Jordan Klinck (Scott) Stafford, Will Jordan, Front Royal, Christina Colbert Cummings (Bobby) Huntsville, Alabama and Jennifer Colbert, Winchester and three great-grandchildren, Kenneth McKeller Elliott IV, "Mack" (born March 26, 2010), Fredericksburg, Briana Cummings and Tasha Cummings, both of Huntsville, Alabama. The family will receive friends from 6:00-9:00 P.M. Thursday, April 8 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas with an Eastern Star Memorial Service being conducted at 7:30 P.M. and where funeral services will be held on Friday, April 9 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Vinnie Van Lainson officiating. Interment will be at Stonewall Memory Gardens.
