Thomas James Suflita

Thomas Suflita, age 63, passed away in peace and with grace on May 2, 2019 with his family by his side. After a lifelong struggle with multiple heart conditions, he later developed COPD and emphysema. He fought so hard and for so long; battling until the very end. He is survived by his loving wife, Gale Suflita of Manassas, VA and their six loving children: Angela Corum, husband Kevin, of Manassas, VA, Angela Jessee, partner Dallas, of Culpeper, VA, Randy Jessee of Manassas, VA, Phillip Suflita, partner Jessica, of Front Royal, VA, Sarah Hanly, husband Thomas, of Manassas, VA, and Serena Suflita, fiancé Ryan, of Manassas, VA. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Kathryn Suflita, and daughter, Jennifer Suflita. Tom was blessed to spend time with his large family and his beloved grandchildren which he often referred to as “too many to count”: Kobe, Brianna, Trey, Cameron, Jacob, Julianna, Whitten, Tiffany, Ryanne, Leo, Jayda, Tyler, Preston, Cassandra, Madalyn, Abigale, TJ, Shelby, Malakai, Aibhiline, and Lochlan. Tom is also survived by his three sisters, Theresa Filipovich of Stafford, VA, Susan Filipovich of Woodbridge, VA, and Patricia Suflita Wilson of San Francisco, CA, a loving Mother in-law Doris Green and sister in-laws, Anita Sager and Sharon D’Abadie all of Manassas, VA, along with countless other family members whom he loved and adored. Tom was born in Camarillo, CA and where he spent his childhood until his family moved to Manassas, VA in the late 1960’s. Manassas is where he found his love, raised his children and enjoyed life. He loved to go fishing, camping, and watch the Washington Redskins (win or lose), but his true passion was woodworking and carpentry. He constantly tinkered with new ideas, concepts, projects and designs. His beloved passion was in carpentry. He remodeled several homes in the Manassas area, but he highlighted his creativity, ingenuity, and artistic craftsmanship in his legacy of work at the home he built and lived in in Marshall, VA. The Marshall home was a labor of love for him and Gale. Tom held careers as a skilled carpenter, amateur photographer, and held multiple positions within the newspaper industry for the Manassas Journal Messenger, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post. With his guidance and dedication to work, he taught all of his children the value of commitment and hard work. Family was so important to Tom and he made sure that each of his close family members knew how much they were loved and how proud of them he was. A celebration of his life will be held at the Manassas Moose Lodge, 9305 Brentsville Road, Manassas, VA, 20112 on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 2 pm.
