Susan Anne Henry

Our beloved mom, Susan Anne Henry, transitioned peacefully on June 28, 2021. Aware that she would be passing in the coming days, she invited family and close friends to say goodbye just prior to her passing. She was surrounded in love. This was a heartfelt, beautiful time, her courage and kindness never wavering amidst sadness. She loved life, her family, and friends, and in the time approaching her death, she expressed her fears as her brave heart opened to death with curiosity. She recognized the interdependent nature of life and death. Susan was born in Woodstock, IL on August 6, 1944, to Sarah and Julius Kieffer. She was the oldest of five children. In September of 1964, she married John Henry of Philo IL. She was mother to Jay, Heather, and Benjamin. She welcomed and loved being a mother, raising her children with love, care, creativity, and laughter. She instilled in them the values of her Catholic faith, kindness, and responsibility. Susan valued and was tenacious about her career. She pursued several interests over time as she wove together her career path, and in the late 1980’s became a paraoptometric in the field of optometry. In 2005, she was named Paraoptometric of the South by AOA (American Optometric Association). She was passionate about patient care and about training others in her field. Her greatest pride and joy were her 4 grandchildren, Johanna, Elyse, Corinne, and John. There was nothing more precious to her than caring for them and spending time with them. She is survived by her daughter, Heather; her son, Ben and daughter-in-law, April; her son-in-law, Marc; her sister, Kathleen; her brothers, Mark and Steven, her grandchildren, and many dear friends. A mass will be held for Susan on August 16, 2021, at All Saints Catholic Church at 9300 Stonewall Rd, Manassas, VA 20110. Following the mass, burial of her cremains will be at Quantico National Cemetery.
