Sheryl Georgina Garayua

Sheryl Georgina Garayua passed away peacefully on February 12, 2018 in Manassas, VA due to complications with pneumonia. Sheryl was born to George Lequerique and Felicita Lequerique Mercado on September 5,1945 in Manhattan, New York. Sheryl was survived by her husband Julio Cesar Garayua of fifty-two years, her brother George Lequerique (Aida), her four daughters, Dinorah Isenberg (Tobin), Cynthia Ascencio (Mario), Vanessa Olivia Murphy (Doyle Michael), Moira Chimento (Kevin), and six grandchildren Caitlyn, Brandon, Katelyn, Chance, Dillon, and Sofia. Sheryl was a devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother who was known for having a big heart and kind soul. Sheryl expressed her love through cooking and always made sure her family had a delicious home cooked meal at the end of the day. Sheryl cherished spending time with family and made her primary focus making sure they were all okay. Sheryl always put others before herself. She was a loyal friend who never hesitated to lend a helping hand and was the person you went to for good sound advice. Sheryl had a magnetic personality. She loved to have fun and had an infectious smile and laughter that could fill a room. She was artistic and crafty and loved using her hands to create pretty things. She enjoyed making pottery and flower arrangements and loved interior decorating. She found pleasure in watching her favorite TV shows which included Judge Judy, The Price is Right, and the daily news with her Butterfinger and Canada Dry ginger ale by her side. In her early years, Sheryl received her cosmetology license and took great joy in fashion, hair, makeup, and nails. She liked water skiing in the tropical waters of Florida, horseback riding, dancing, and singing. She placed first in opera competitions in New York City and sang at Carnegie Hall. Sheryl went on to teach elementary school English, later became a Bookkeeper, and finally worked at the Virginia Employment Commission helping people find employment. Sheryl took great pride in doing this work and in making a positive difference in people’s lives and the community. In high school her favorite saying was “God is your guide” and her ambition was to attain her wings as an airline hostess. Sheryl, may you rest in peace knowing you have attained your wings in heaven. You will be forever missed by your family and friends here on earth.
