Sharon Ann Smith

Sharon Ann Smith, 81, of Haymarket, VA, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024. She was born on May 5, 1942, in Dayton, Ohio to the late Janet Rose (Muller) Becker and George Becker. Sharon was an extremely loving and supportive woman who readily put others first. She always found a way to be cheerful and people were drawn to her because of her warmth. She was a born listener and shared her wisdom and kindness with all. Sharon graduated from Stivers High School in Dayton, OH and then Miami Jacobs Business College, completing her Associates degree. She married Gordon Carl Smith on August 27, 1966 after meeting at Wright Patterson AFB. Gordon’s Air Force career took them to Colorado, California and Ohio. They then moved back to California and later Tennessee, ending up in Virginia in 1978. They made their home in northern Virginia for the last 44 years. No matter where they lived, Sharon created a warm, loving home for her family. Sharon led a life filled with love and laughter. Her children and grandchildren always knew how much their Mom/Memaw adored them. She never missed an opportunity to attend a school event, sports activity, or holiday gathering. Her family was so fortunate to have spent so much time with her, enjoying her sense of humor, sage advice, listening ear, and her deep affection. Sharon and Gordon shared a life together that all should envy. They were devoted to each other and were such incredible role models to everyone. In addition to spending time with family, they traveled extensively and shared their love of travel with their children and grandchildren. Outer Banks, Hawaii, Europe, and family cruises were favorite traditions. In addition to her husband Gordon, she is survived by their children Licia A. Leach and her husband Dana of Mechanicsburg, PA, Krista A. Beenhouwer of Fairfax, VA, and Matthew W. Smith and his wife Andrea of Charlotte, NC; and eight grandchildren, Katelyn, Eric, Emily, Brooke, Colin, Macey, Lindsey, and Nathan. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org)) Sharon/Mom/Memaw will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace knowing how much love she spread to everyone she encountered.
