Selma Evonne Walker

Selma Evonne Walker, age 73, departed this life on Friday, February 27, 2015, at Prince William Hospital in Manassas, Virginia. Evonne was the first child born to the late William Alexander and Rosie Lea Pannell in Manassas, Virginia on November 6, 1941. Evonne lived in Manassas her entire life and she graduated from Manassas Regional High School in 1960. Evonne became employed at IBM in Manassas where she worked as a design automater until she retired in 1996. She returned to the workforce and was employed with Wynn Laboratories until she finally retired in 2000. Evonne was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt who enjoyed having family and friends at her house. Evonne was always ready for a card game whether it be bid whist, spades, hand & foot or three-thirteen. If you were hungry all you had to do was ask and she was always ready to cook you a meal. Evonne will always be known for her famous potato salad, pig’s feet, cornbread and many other fabulous dishes she made. Evonne turned this love of family and food into an annual event she affectionately called: Selma Walker’s Annual Cook-Off. Evonne started this event in 1982 and it continued strong for 32 years. Evonne was preceded in death by her parents, William and Rosie Pannell. She leaves to cherish her memories her devoted companion Timothy “Tim” Campbell; three children: Demetrius J. Winston (Maiken), Dontae M. Walker and Debra Ann Beale (Timmy); one brother: William R. “Ronnie” Pannell; one sister-in-law: Sheila B. Pannell; two sisters: Evelyn Barr and Carol Johnson; four grandchildren: Gage Hughes, Shanaya Corum, Dominic Winston and Davontae Smith; one great grandchild Makai Lewis and her dearest friend, Barbra Lee. Evonne also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family relatives and many friends that will miss her greatly. The family will receive friends at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, Virginia on Saturday, March 7, 2015 from 11:00AM until 12:00 PM at which time funeral services will then be conducted with Rev. Harold (Hassie) L. Howard conducting. Interment will be private.
