Ruby Jane Hall Young

Ruby Jane Hall Young, 82, of Haymarket, Virginia, peacefully passed away on October 15, 2023. Ruby was born on April 12, 1941, in Pulaski, Virginia, to the late Oda and Shirley Hall. She was the beloved wife of David W Young Jr (Dave) whom she married in 1961 and the loving mother of Sharon (Steve) Page, David (Meg) Young, and James Young. Ruby was also a cherished grandmother to Daniel (Nicole) Page, Kyrie Page, Peyton Young, and Harris Young. She had one great grandchild, Elise Page. Ruby was an accomplished seamstress, known for her exquisite craftsmanship in creating everything from costumes to wedding dresses. As she raised her children, she dedicated her time and energy as a leader in various Church Youth Groups, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts. After raising her children, she served in prayer and counseling ministries, mentored and counseled countless individuals, affecting many lives. Ruby's passion for ministry and nurturing others extended to her family, her fellow parishioners, neighbors, and friends. Ruby served as a Navy wife, supporting Dave in his Naval and civilian careers. She often said that she followed him to the ends of the earth (Adak, Alaska) until she and Dave returned to Northern Virginia. Whether on tour with the Navy or back home in Virginia, she made a home for her family. She opened her home to family, neighbors, and friends, often hosting church small groups for many years. In her free time, Ruby enjoyed her hobbies, which included sewing, painting, gardening, and making her home a lovely sanctuary for her family. She taught many young people how to sew and paint. She found joy in expressing her creativity and making beautiful things with her hands. Ruby was an active member of her community and found solace and peace in her faith. She worshiped at Oakton Church of the Brethren as a young woman and later at Truro Episcopal Church in Fairfax. In 2000, with Dave, she was a founding member of a new church plant, Church of the Holy Spirit in Leesburg. Ruby had great faith and trust in God, the Holy Spirit, and her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. She leaned on her faith for support and strength as she made her spiritual journey on earth. Ruby was preceded in death by her brothers, Calvin Hall, Clyde "Bill" Hall, Shirley Hall Jr; son in law, Thom Vardaman, and beloved grandchild, Abigail Page. She is survived by her brothers, Jimmy (Susan) Hall, David Hall, and Ronald (Lynn Hanrahan) Hall Sr; sister, JoAnn Keckley; and cousin David (Janice) Hagee, as well as her extended family and friends. She was known as Mama Ruby or Grandma to her grandchildren and Aunt Ruby to numerous nieces and nephews, supporting them as they grew and into adulthood. Ruby will be deeply missed by all who know her. Her kindness, creativity, hospitality, service to others, and her faith in God will be remembered and cherished forever. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023, at 1:00 pm. Church of the Holy Spirit. 908 Trailview Blvd SE Suite 200, Leesburg, VA 20175 A reception will follow the service. Interment will be private. As an alternative to flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Tribute to Ruby Young.
