Robert Dean Kesner

Robert Dean "Bob" Kesner, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and veteran, passed away peacefully at home on May 29th, 2023, at the age of 90, in Centreville, VA. Surrounded by his loving family, Bob bid farewell to this world, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of strength and patriotism. Bob was born to Lillian (Irene) Lipscomb on October 9, 1932, in Terra Alta, WV. He spent his formative years in Clarksburg, WV, where he completed his high school education before enlisting in the United States Air Force to serve his country honorably during the Korean War. Following the war, he was stationed at Brookley Air Force Base in Alabama, where fate brought him together with the love of his life, Ann Pierce. They married and enjoyed 42 wonderful years together. Following his military career, Bob and Ann moved north and settled in the Northern Virginia area, where they would create a home and raise their son, Perry. Throughout his adult life, Bob worked as a sheet metal fabricator, utilizing the skills he acquired in the armed forces. He was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his craft, and he continued working until his well-earned retirement in 2005. Additionally, Bob was an active member of the American Legion Post #177, in Fairfax. After Ann's passing in 1999, Bob made his residence at the Wingler House in Ashburn, Virginia where he’d live for the next two decades. Within this community, he found solace and formed meaningful friendships. Affectionately bestowed with the title of "Mayor" by his friends and neighbors, Bob relished his independence and took on the role of resident bingo caller, bringing joy to those around him. Bob will be remembered for his captivating storytelling, his infectious laughter, and his unwavering patriotism. He leaves behind a profound legacy of resilience and integrity that will forever inspire those who knew him. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John, and his beloved wife, (Martha) Ann Kesner. He is survived by his only child, Perry W. Kesner Sr., and his caring daughter-in-law, Robin Kesner, who provided him with gentle and loving care in his final days. Bob's grandchildren, Perry W. Kesner Jr. (Erika), Tarah DeLara (Charles), Laura Kesner, and Sherese Pirnat affectionately called him "Pop-Pop." He also leaves behind four great-grandchildren, Charlee (11), Stella (7), Remy (5), and Benny (4). Bob would have been overjoyed to welcome his fifth great-grandchild, Theodore, expected to arrive in July 2023. Though Pop-Pop has left this earthly realm, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts and minds of those fortunate enough to have known him. His memory will be cherished, and his values will be carried forward by future generations. May he find eternal peace as he rests alongside Nana at Arlington National Cemetery, surrounded by the dignity and honor he so deeply valued. Your kindness, compassion, and companionship meant the world to Bob, providing him with the socialization and sense of independence he cherished in his final years.
