Richard West

RICHARD "DICK" FRANCIS WEST, age 82 of Nokesville, Virginia died Monday, 24 November 2008 at Capital Hospice, Arlington, Virginia after suffering with Alzheimer's and a stroke. He was born January 21, 1926 in Washington, D.C., son of the late Joseph Henry (World War I Veteran) and Marie Agnes Tydings West. Mr. West was a U.S. World War II Navy veteran who also served 40 years in Civilian Federal Government as a transportation officer for the DOD, Defense Logistics Agency, Administrative Support Center, Cameron Station, Alexandria, Virginia form 1962-1981. Upon retirement, he joined the newly found Northern Virginia Senior Softball League (NVSS) Springfield, Virginia and was a member for 28 years and actively played until age 80 because softball was his life. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Joseph West; one step son, Don R. Poehler, Jr. and one grandson, Rodney M. Poehler. Survivors include his beloved wife of 33 ' years, Evelyn (Franny) West; one son, Richard L. West of Tennessee; one daughter, Deborah A. Burrell of Wilmington, North Carolina; one grandson, Travis West; two granddaughters, Lindsay N. and Amanda A. Ingle all from a previous marriage to Elizabeth (Betty ) West; one adoped daughter, Glenda M. Benton and husband James; two step sons, Gary L. Poehler of Woodbridge, Virginia and Charles E. Poehler and wife Lisa of Front Royal, Virginia; one stepdaughter, Cathy J. Herndon of Fredericksburg, Virginia; six grandsons, Tony N. Poehler and wife Sylvia, David L. Herndon, Dominic Scatto, Jacob and Zachary Poehler and James L. Benton; two granddaughters, Darlene F. Norris and Michelle F. Benton; five great grandsons, Cody Poehler, Michael Norris, Justin Ischinger, Ryan Jenkins and Michael Fratolillo and three great granddaughters, Serenity Scatto, Melanie Poehler and Allura Faith Herndon. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas where funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle with military honors.
