Patricia Linda Kennedy

On Saturday, October 9, 2021, Patricia L. (Costello) Kennedy, loving wife, mother of three, and amazing ‘Mimi’ to four granddaughters, passed away at the age of 79 in Haymarket, VA. Patti was born December 5, 1941, in Philadelphia, PA to Joe and Josephine Costello. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy and the Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She spent her career working in nursing and the healthcare industry. On December 28, 1963, she married J. Kevin Kennedy and moved to Rhode Island. They raised two daughters, Jennifer, and Melissa, and one son, Jamie, spending time in California and Minnesota, before settling in northern Virginia. Patti loved keeping up with her granddaughters’ activities including soccer, college, horseback riding, volleyball, basketball, and flag football. She was game for trying new technology - mastering her iPhone for facetiming, using a laptop, navigating her smart TV, and giving voice commands to Alexa. Friends and family could always count on a text message from Patti to include a LOT of emojis! Animals, especially dolphins and dogs, also brought her joy. We know she’s in heaven now playing with Maddie, Gizmeau, Max, Muffin, Patches, Gingerbread, Sammi & Shelby – while her favorite singer John Denver serenades her of course! Patti also loved books and magazines. She and Kevin collected many books throughout the years and friends who helped them move their house described it as “moving the Library of Congress.” She had a passion for American History and politics and believed that in a true democracy even “common people” could make a difference. Patti encouraged everyone to vote! Patti was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Josephine. She leaves behind her husband Kevin, her children Jennifer (Pete), Melissa (Rob), and Jamie (Deb), her four granddaughters Kayla, Kelsey, Keagan, and Keira, her sister Kathi (Michael), her niece Alex and nephew Nick, her extended family, and friends near and far. We have a hole in our hearts but will love her forever. We’ll keep watch for one of her rainbows… A “Celebration of Patti’s Life” will be held on Saturday, December 4th, 2021, in Virginia.
