Michael Morris

Michael F. Morris, 76, of Nokesville, Virginia, died on April 28, 2010, at home surrounded by family. He was born on November 16, 1933 in Salem, Indiana, to the late Wendell and Eleanor Janicki Morris. On March 24, 1954, he was united in marriage to Elida Porter Morris in San Antonio TX. He graduated from Lincoln High School in MI., attended Michigan State University, Syracuse University and The University of Cambridge, in England; he received a Bachelor of Mathematics with honors and a Master of Business Administration in Computer Science. Mike served in the USAF for over twenty years as a Mathematician, working in places such as Cape Canaveral, Florida and Royal Air Force Chicksands in Bedfordshire, England. In his post military career as a Computer Engineer, he traveled the world auditing and consulting with various governments on their computer needs. He worked with the Italian Department of Education and guest lectured at places such as the Weizmann Institute of Science in Tel Aviv, Israel. Mike co-authored a book, "Computer Performance Evaluation," which was used in college level computer courses. He tried his hand in politics in the 70's, running for Virginia House of Representatives and was referenced to as the "Energy Candidate." Mike is survived by his wife, Elida (Mitzi) Porter Morris; son, Glenn and wife, Sage of San Antonio TX.; daughter, Sharon of Falls Church VA.; son, Douglas of McLean, VA.; daughter, Diane and husband, Jon Hall of San Antonio TX.; daughter, Debby and husband, Harry Lear of Nokesville, VA; Nine grandchildren, Doug Guthrie of Louisville, KY.; Jessica Morris Reed of Wash., DC.; Nicole, Desiree and Michael F. Morris II of Reston, VA.; James Hall of Dallas TX.; Kristin, Bailey and Jackie Lear of Nokesville, VA.; and three great grandchildren, Raleigh Guthrie of Louisville KY.; Liberty Gardner of Chandler, AZ.; and Samuel Mortensen of Mesa, AZ. Survivors also include two sisters, Nedra Franz, of Oakland, MI and Joan Cober of Sterling, VA. He is further survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Morris.
