Meade Hammond Kendrick Jr.

Meade Hammond Kendrick Jr. (Age 89) Of Manassas (originally from Alexandria) passed away peacefully on Thursday August 10th in Manassas. He worked in management for various manufacturing companies over the years including LogEtronics, Plexis, and Acuity Systems. He was also Vice President of Radiation Systems, Inc and was the head of the physical plant at Aarondale assisted living facility. He took pride in his military service working in Naval intelligence during and after the Korean War. He graduated from George Washington High School and also played football at Shepherd College. He was a member of the Robert V MCMaugh Memorial American legion Post 10. He was very involved in his kids activities, leader in Indian Guides, Cub Scouts, coach in the Greater Manassas football and baseball leagues. He was also Vice President of the GMBL for a number of year. He volunteered his time for decades at the voter registration and elections office in the city of Manassas and was always seen working the polls during local and national elections. He was very mechanically gifted and was always in service of family, friends or neighbors that needed advice or needed anything fixed. Mechanical or electrical, he was everyone’s first call. He was a friend to all and on more than one occasion was called a “Virginia Gentleman”. He was generally a man of few words but the advice he did give had an impact of all that knew him. He was also a mentor to many young employees over the years some of them have contacted us since his passing and told us he was the one biggest positive influence in their lives. Even though he had a great sense of humor he never liked to smile in photos but would at other times laugh until tears streamed down his face. He spent the last year of his life living at the Caton Merchant assisted living facility cared for by the wonderful staff for whom we are forever grateful. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Ann Young Kendrick, his sisters June Ayers and Shirley Wilson. He is survived by his children, Meade Hammond Kendrick III (Donna), Lori Elizabeth Kendrick Giles (Tim), Jill Catherine Kendrick, Brent Thomas Kendrick, his grandchildren Meade Hammond Kendrick IV, Mary Elizabeth Kendrick, William Kendrick Giles, Sydney Elizabeth Kendrick, Cullen Thomas Kendrick, and his grandcats Bodhi and Binx, his sister Rosemary Jones, his great grandson Meade Hammond Kendrick V, brother-in-law Thomas Albert Young Jr.(almost 3rd son), Sister-in-law Jan Callaway. and many other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Sunday August 20 at Pierce Funeral Home. A service at the funeral home will be held at 11am on Monday August 21, with interment to follow at Mount Comfort Cemetery in Alexandria at 130pm. A celebration of life gathering will take place from 4-6 pm at 9208 Lee Avenue in Old Town Manassas hosted by Lee and Heather Mergler after the services.
