Maryrose Patrone

Maryrose Vigna Patrone died peacefully on November 2, 2015, at home in Clifton, VA, surrounded by family and friends. She was born in Litchfield, IL, the daughter of Marianna Nicolinti and Bernardo Vigna, who predeceased her, as did her brother Nicholas Vigna and sister, Angela Vigna Murphy. Maryrose lived in many places, but since 1963 was a resident of Fairfax County, VA, where she raised her family and worked until her retirement as a school social worker and psychologist. Maryrose was a vibrant, energetic person who never colored inside the lines and always thought outside the box as she fulfilled her parents’ dreams of a better life in a new country. She attended high school in Gillispie, IL, and graduated from Maryville College in St. Louis, MO. She received her Master’s in Education from George Mason University and her Doctor of Education from San Diego University. She also attended the Summer Master’s Program at St. John’s College in Annapolis, MD. A lifetime learner, after retirement Maryrose attended many elder hostel courses and continually read books, took and taught courses in personal writing, and studied countless Great Courses tapes and CDs. Maryrose adored her children and grandchildren and was overjoyed to meet her first great grandchild a few days before her death. She held dual American and Italian citizenship and maintained close relationships with her large Italian family in the Province of Turin, Italy, whom she visited frequently and loved dearly. She also loved and appreciated her faithful friends and neighbors, members of her Red Hats Club, and childhood friends with whom she kept in touch by email and Facebook. She was predeceased by her son, Patrick Michael Patrone, MD, and her beloved cousin, Bruno Aloy. Left to remember her and carry on her legacy are her children: Nicholas A. Patrone, MD and wife, Judith L. Kornegay, of Rocky Mount, NC; Sabrina V-M. Patrone, MD, and husband, James V. Gallagher IV, MD, of Hershey, PA; grandchildren Paul N. Patrone and wife Eva Langston Patrone, of Silver Springs, MD; James V. Gallagher, V, and wife, Stephanie Dewalt Gallagher, of Williamsport, PA; and Nicholas A. Gallagher, of Hershey, PA; Alexandra M.Patrone and husband, Ronald Wettstein of Loris, SC; and Patrick Michael Patrone, Jr., of Mt. Lorel, NJ; and great grandson, Leonardo Vincent Patrone; cousins Rosalba and Angelica Vigna, Natalia Zambelli, Marco Aloy, Luigi Aloy and their families, and numerous other cherished Italian relatives; as well as her dear friends Yan Zhao, and Dick and Masako Nanto. Maryrose’s family expresses their profound thanks to Eunice Robertson, who was her loving and attentive caretaker, Caring Capitol Hospice, and her friends who loved and cared for her throughout her final illness. A memorial service to celebrate Maryrose’s life will be held at 11 AM, November 11th, 2015, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 14150 Upperridge Dr., Centerville, VA 20121.
